Is it fair to say that vlogging is the WEB 2.0 of the blogging industry and that eventually most bloggers will hardly bother with the written word and instead just use the preinstalled webcam and speaker systems that already are on offer such as my XPS DELL laptop??

Whilst many will always prefer the written word - for many different reasons, such as being able to write more eloquently then talking out loud, or camera shy, or prefer anonymity........, but is that the majority of cases, or willl most eventually take to vlogging like fish to water.......??

WIll blogging become an ancient word, associated with the static information age of the internet - with Vlogging being the buzz word oer the next five/ten years?

I ask because I have registered the names VLOGGERTV.COM VLOGGERSTV.COM and VLOGGINGTV.COM, with VLOGTV.COM taken and all the VLOG variations xxx .TV taken aswell.

BLOGTV.COM is a major site and gaining alot of momentum and with all the broadcast sites - mogulus, ibroadcast etc etc getting more and more attention, will vloggging as a key term not gain in prominence more and more??

Thanks for any input

Vblogging is in the near future. It's already happening, it just hasn't become mainstream yet.

You mention VBLOGGING as opposed to VLOGGING - do you think VBLOGGING will win out over VLOGGING as the commonly used word for video blogs

Good question. I think the answer lies in what the major blog sites call it. I personally like vblog better, but vlog could just as easily win out.

Blogging will always have it's place but i've personally already started vlogging and it's so much easier (i find) that generic blogging where you actually have to write things. (argh!)

Anyway yeah, it's the future.

Wow. I actually like vlogging.

Now is it going replace blogging I don't know much about vlogging

I think vlogging or vblogging will be a good fit for video social networking. I think also think web 2.0 social networks will be dead in years to come. Video will be a key drive for new phase of social networks I believe.

Just like how I dislike web 2.0. So I am using socialgrah.tv socialgraphs.tv to be replacing this stupid web 2.0 or web 3.0 term.

Google and facebook all ready using the term social graph.

I think its worth the investment and speculate. If it hits and term catches on you will be doing very well.

Vlogging is a category of its own. It doesn't have to be compared or thought to take the place of blogging, etc. It's its own category and can shine in that way itself.

It's already happening (You need not look any further than Justin.TV and RocketBoom for that), as it works in a great way for a lot of people, although many people won't like producing them and instead just enjoy consuming (viewing) them. And you can certainly put your names to good use or sell it; or know it has good potential either way.

The term is "Vlog" and hence "Vlogging".

I think its an excellent initiative James.

Testament to what you are saying, and where it is evolving, is that YouTube povide for "comments" on videos which can be written or by video. Typically, the video response is someone sitting in front of their webcam giving their two cents worth. Interestingly over the last couple of months, video resposes have increased dramatically.

I agree, the same thing will occur re traditional blogs - they will be videos - and they are Vlogs.

The concept of "Vlogging" will probably be huge in the future. The problem is what term will become the common way to describe it? It could be vBlogging, Vlogging, Video Blogging, Vidcasting, or many other words.

Nice findings ray. First time I heard vlogs. I usually try keep up on tech trends and future stuff but this vlog looks very enticing.

Another topic I have somewhat learned.

Go vlog!

The term itself is not new by any stretch....but the concept, at least in my opinion, is sound and poised.

The proliferation of high-speed connections availabe now means more and more people will be looking at video. 10 years ago, people shied away, unless it was porn, because it too too long to download. Now-a-days, that isn't the case.

Does that mean a boon for .tv? Not by a long shot, but it DOES mean a boon for online video, which trickles to .tv.

Now James.....should I throw away all my "blogger' domains in favor of "vlogger"? My short, albeit narrow minded, view says absolutely not. My gut feeling is that BOTH terms will become synonomous and interchangeable.

I think, and I know people will have different views, that instead we will see extensions of the term "writer". I think we will start to see emerging professions along the lines of "web-writer, screen-writer, radio-writer". They are all extremely differen't professions with an extremely different viewer base.

Ask yourself this: Are the people going to xxxxxchannel.tv the same people that click on channel 278 via their remote control to watch the same thing on cable? Maybe 1 in 100 are the same person. The other 1 percent are random people looking for a tv name or typing blindly.

So how do we counter that? With Dev. If nothing else, you should be putting up media friendly sites. If you are sitting on a plastic parking page, with no clicks, expect more of the same the next few years.

However, and I strongly believe this, if you have a parked .tv with even 10 uniques a month, then you should be considering taking advantage of that traffic and not letting some parking company get all your revenue.

If you are getting 10 visits a month from no advertising, think what a cheap website and a few clicks on your own adsense would do for you.

That may have been a little bit of a rant......in summary, if you have a solid dev plan with monetization in mind, you will be all right, but in the short term, make sure you are very smart with what you are doing with your unused domains.

blogtv.com is a fellow Israeli Start-up.

The only ws domain I own is vlog.ws, but it gets hardly any traffic.
