Hello, I just joined Namepros a little while ago, and I am glad to see a forum with such like mind individuals. Well, I wanted to put up a little rant on why I think .tv is going to take off and probably a really good investment right now.
1. The term "tv" is known throughout the world! Its globally branded already and thus cuts the barrier of getting people used a new extension (.mobi). Actually when you think about it, almost everyone in the world already knows what a "tv" is.
2. More and more and more .TV websites have been popping up in commercials. I see a new one everyday! The more the extension is the media, the more people get used it to it as a "normal" extension. It's expanding. The only other extension I see more in commercial advertising is .com and .org. I rarely see .net or .us or .mobi on commercials.
3. I may get some flack on this one -- but I see ChannelMe as a good thing! While the platform is not perfect, it will expose more people to .tv due to the social networking aspect of it. Social networking is huge (myspace, facebook) and I believe eventually ChannelMe will take off. However it will have to evolve. Remember when Myspace came out? Most people said it was a poorly designed website. I hear some of he same complaints with ChannelMe. Simply put, as long as new people sign up with ChannelMe and create new channels they will tell friends and family. They invite new people and so on and such. This will create a snowball effect for ChannelMe and .tv. I'm sure Rosenblatt has some things up his sleeve and hopefully they will do real advertising with those VC bucks. Maybe a Super Bowl commercial or some heavier advertising to speed things along? ChannelMe will evolve and become more user centric (hopefully) and then it will truly spotlight .tv. One thing I would suggest for them -- create a price point around $9.99. That would allow someone to purchase a site for only 83 cents a month. There are many other reasons I believe ChannelME will help but I only got so much space.
4. The YouTube generation has truly made people think that its normal to watch videos and televisions on the internet! This video explosion will only help the .tv domain and I don't see internet videos or Youtube or Break going away anytime soon.
5. Many young people think its cool to have a .tv extension and actually see it as normal. Many of the older internet "gurus" are stuck in the .com mold. As the younger generation age, the .tv domain will expand. Dot com will always be king, but .tv could easily get up there.
6. (Theory) I think eventually technology/hardware will become so good, that people will be talking for free - face to face through the internet. Although there are application out such as webcams, etc its not where it needs to be. For example think of people able to talk to your stockbroker face to face through the internet. Such as you could go to MrStockGuru.tv and you walk into his virtual office and talk to him in real time, and both people can see others faces, and able to talk and ask questions. This quality will be near HD and without graininess or choppy video. It will be like when reporters talk to people in realtime on TV. Just an opinion!
BTW, I swing for the fences and I'm making this my extension of choice for investing. I may hedge a little with .mobi but I just think that the evolution of cellphone hardware/applications will allow for any type of extension not just .mobi. Just my 2cents.
