Hi:

I have registered couple of my domains at Hostway. They have a strange way of domain push to a new account. Firstly they do not reply to your mails at all. And the billing department is attrocious.

To seperate an account (Push). They ask a form to be filled and sent to them by Email which they do not reply.. for atleast 5 days and then... when called.. they send you another form... The best part is I guess they want 9.95$ to create a new account.. I have pasted the formats sent to me..

This is the first form:

>> Hello,
>>
>> Thank you for contacting Hostway. In order to start the process of
>seperating a domain into its own account, please complete the
>following new contact information and the release statement below.
>Please return the form by replying to this email.
>>
>> Domain name: ___________________________________
>>
>> Name of new contact: ___________________________
>>
>> Email address: _________________________________
>>
>> Phone number: __________________________________
>>
>> I agree to release the above domain, currently included in my
>account, to a separate Hostway account.
>>
>> ______________________________
>> Sign or Print Name
>>
>> Once we receive this information, we will contact the new customer
>to complete this process.
>> If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us
>again.
>>
>> Sincerely,

I had emailed them about this before I started purchasing my domains with them (since they were the cheapest I found). Here is what the tech support people sent me for a response below.

So What I have been doing is creating a separate new account for each domain I register. It is a bit of a pain, but I can change it to the person's name I sell it to instantly instead of having to wait for up to three days for them to get to it.

You can do it either way, however, it would be faster for you to create separate accounts. The process of splitting an account can take up to 3 days.

>Since I will be buying multiple domains and building small sites and

>Thanks again for your help!

No, there is no fee, you can just change the personal/billing information in SiteControl to the new owner.

>If I own a domain name, and I sell that domain name to someone else, is
>there a fee involved for me to transfer that domain name into their

I am confused, why even bother at all with them since it is such a pain? I mean it's not like they have the cheapest prices.

I have learned that it is best to only buy domains from a company that is primarily a domain reg, like GD or namecheap. Hosting companies almost always have extra charges for transferring a domain to another company and other misc charges. Domain regs are best left to domain regs and hosting is best bought from a hosting company. But apparently not hostway. Glad you brought it up, though. I actually thought about using them before. But there are so many decent hosts out there, I will just move on to the next one.

It's almost always ideal to get your domain name with an actual registrar and
your hosting with an actual web hosting company.
