Why is this so difficult?!

I finally stopped procrastinating and purchased a hosting package so that I could start developing my site. Well I have very limited experience designing websites, but I'm a very quick learner. When I logged in to site builder, it looked like another lanquage. What am I too do now? How do I get started? Should I just give up and take a class? And what the he*% is cpanel? HELP!!!!

cpanel is just a central place to manage everything with your hosting package. I don't use it, but every hosting company offers some type of control panel - hostgator uses cpanel. Take some time and play around with each function until you know what does what.

As for getting up a quick webpage - for beginners I recommend using an opensource template and going from there. That way you can see what someone else has done, and you can make your own minor edits, upload it to your server and see the changes. it's how I learned - lots of trial and error. Mostly errors, but you will get it if you take the time necessary.

To do the above you will need to either A) learn how to use the cpanel ftp, or B) using cpanel set up your own ftp so you can use whatever software you want from your own desktop. Option B is much better if you have lots of files to move around - it also keeps the directory structure in a manner much simpler to follow.

Try to learn Joomla, Wordpress or Drupal. You can set up all these scripts through Fantastico in cPanel. For me, this is the best way to start developing a website.
