Hostgator feedback?

Now I mean it, I really mean it, I am going to start developing some of my domain portfolio. Looking around for hosting where one is not restricted to number of domains or bandwidth per month. I have spent some time checking out Hostgator and they would seem to have what I'm looking for.

I've certainly seen them mentioned on NP, so would anyone care to post any feedback about their experiences (hopefully good) about using Hostgator and their Site Builder, for building and hosting mini-sites?

Thanks.

Godaddy's shared hosting is surprisingly good. :)

GoDaddy is where my domains are so this was the first place I looked for hosting and site building. Although it looked promising, the big drawback was that it was only one site per hosting package if you were take one of their hosting plans plus Site Builder.

Hostgator appears to have the same sort of unlimited hosting plan plus free Site Builder.

I don't have any experience with HostGator's sitebuilder, but their uptime and support is top-notch.

I'm not sure how Site Builder works, but their Deluxe Hosting package allows for the hosting of unlimited domains.

A very reliable one - not a big company, but very professional, fast and top support, no downtime for me (or only once for a few minutes) in two years is:
http://www.myriadnetwork.com
I have a reseller package with them, which I use for a dozen domains, and I have been extremely happy. And they have physical access to their server if need there is, which is not the case for many hosting services today on the market.

Another, cheaper option (no physical access to their servers), but very helpful and honest people, is:
http://www.theprimehost.com/
I have several minisites with them, and I am rather pleased. If this is the purpose, it should be OK. If you are looking for a higher level (slightly more expensive), then Myriad.

The plus of such companies is that they are small to midsize: much more personal service. But they have also been in operation for several years, and are unlikely to disappear overnight.

I was with large hosting companies: I wouldn't do it again, support is often terrible.

PS: of course, there are some restrictions on bandwidth - but until you reach it, it will take time. Moreover, you can then upgrade to a higher plan, which should be a painless process.

hostgator is alright, except it's a bit overpriced as you'll never be able to use anywhere near the amount of webspace/bandwidth before they kick you off their servers... or something similar, lol.

I would fully go with lunar before I would go with GD or HG, I don't like the way either of those two places treat their clients and yes I have been a client to both of them in the past.

Thanks for all the useful information in your posts. Interested to read the Hostgator comments and follow up checking out Lunarpages. I hadn't heard of Lunarpages before and they look really interesting. This is exactly the kind of info I've been looking for. Npers rock!

No complaints whatsoever about Hostgator. Can't coment about the others as I've only used HG. In the beginning, for me it was a toss-up between HG and Lunarpages.

I have never tried Lunarpages, but when I searched for hosting solutions some two years ago, I read many positive comments on them.

I have two separate accounts at HostGator and have been very happy with them. Whenever I've needed to use their support, I've been very pleased with that as well. I will say, however, that I have been considering a switch to Lunarpages for a reseller account. I've heard good things about Lunarpages and their pricing is good.
