I agree it will eventually be a continuum and I doubt very much 'mr' or 'mixed reality' will be the term that captures it, even though Microsoft are attempting to convince us.

Who knows in this crazy game.

I made bets in VR, AR, MR & XR (also Holo) so would be great if I could make some sales from each.

Yes Microsoft are trying to make MR the spectrum. But I would just be happy for them to push the mixed reality term into the public realms which looks as though that is what they are trying to achieve.

Probably get even more confusing if Apple call their tech a new reality

That's the best way to look at it. I've already done quite well from VR sales, so to think AR, MR, XR, Holo etc is just around the corner too is quite exciting :P

I doubt Microsoft will be changing the Branding on Hololens.
And it does present future possibilities to those branding product for it.
But not the only ones.
My only problem with the term is that when most of the naming is made-up-words, it is a craps shoot.
Not that it won't be used, just trying to determine what will have strength enough for a good ROI.

Diversify.
Dont really care about spectrum but about usage in the name. All about how strong a term is gonna get so a company would brand with it.

But you do need to pay attention that some other giants are referring to MR as all in one as well so it will make the term stronger

Something important we need to focus on imo about the hyping term XR in tech cycles.
For consumer adoption, one need to understand the use of a term.
For xr to work with consumers , it must be Extended Reality/Extra Reality and not xR. If its xR, it will be very hard for it to catch with consumers because it will mean nothing.
Crossing fingers for all realities, got my hands full in all of them lol

So XR is the flavor of the week, be something else next.

Think it’s safe to say the only 2 terms guaranteed to have a future is Virtual and Augmented Reality.

Everything else, big question mark :?:

VR fully immersive
MR not immersive

When a customer will search for a product or service most will do a targeted search.

Extended Reality is a catch all term and yes some companies can use this term when offering virtual reality and mixed reality services but most consumers will still do a targeted search.

Sent an enquiry for xreality dot com

Not all that bothered about it, would have possibly took a punt for $1k. Owner got back to me $125,000.

It's always cute to speculate...
I don't think you could get 20k for it if and when it actually means something.
Other wise, pot luck.

Mate you should send me an offer for:

XR Tetail (.com)

I might be willing to let it go for the right price

Now THAT looks promising

Always thought since A is in front of AR it couldn't work at thee end of 2 word combo.

Especially if the first word ends in a vowel..

But I guess Live is too good a word to ignore really.

On another note. I'm connected to someone on LinkedIn who as a description of themselves on there has this:

"Strategy & Investment in XR | creative technology & natural user interfaces to Virtual Worlds"

Thought it would be interesting to share.

If we have people like this actively marketing VR and AR and MR and using XR to explain what they do?...........

I have listened to that alphabet-soup many times.
I don't believe any of it.
You either have keywords of demand or you don't.
You might be able to say something about keyword(s) placement. For that can change the meaning.

Edit: Example:
NewsVR and VRNews

NewsVR in english is NEWS that is in VR
VRNews is NEWS about VR
