All this corporate dribble means nothing to the consumer. Few to zero domains will sell if "XR" and "MR" do not become a *CONSUMER* terminologies . Corporate PDFs, articles, etc won't give valuable to domains. It's the terms used in commercials and ads that give value to a keyword. Don't expect any serious company to be marketing "XR" to consumers when Apple and Google will be pushing AR and VR. Those are the terms consumers are already aware of so why spend millions trying to familiarize the public with some other term that the bug boys aren't using? Consumers' first reaction to XR and MR will be "but that's just VR or AR with extra features".

My opinion is to not waste your money on the little, obscure terms.

Well I am suprised consumers know what AR is, because not one person who I have ever met outside of the tech world knows what augmented reality is.

Could be I just meet dumb people I guess

I think Windows and the XBox pushing the "mixed reality" keywords will be seen by consumers though.

I know you said in another post that Microsoft isn't cool enough or as you stated in this post isn't one of the big boys :xf.eek:. The Xbox is a very well sold peice of kit for something that isn't cool don't you think?

Windows is a pretty big platform as well, I mean the biggest computer os there is.

I would agree with people who said consumers know what VR is. But I can't say that I agree that the average Joe would know what AR or Augmented Reality was. They would however know that Pokemon Go was a mobile game.

I personally love VR & AR. But there is also a terminology used to desribe the progression of these tech's when elements from each are mixed to create another reality. When that happens, it is no longer just standalone VR or AR imo.

No probs then your in a very good position i would be buying as many vr and ar names as possible as you have stated these are the only ones that will win as the pay day will be huge as too who gets the term right with the right names. This is a once in a lifetime chance to get the next biggest tech change coming in our lifetime and picking a correct term is a must i like a bit of a punt and gamble i am a bit of a gamblet at heart and xr is my punt and gamble but please only buy if you like it if not no probs at all just leave it alone . I have a very large ar collection too so if ar wins that's ok by me too .

Best of luck with It mate as the time is fast approaching when we will know more.

I am sure everyone seen this already but I have not been as active on this thread as of late so sorry if it's already been mentioned.

I know a few on here have mentioned before that no one has branded with the "MR" abbreviation on their hardware.

But looks like ASUS have took the step in this direction by branding their headset "ASUS MR" as can be seen in the below picture:

Elad posted it earlier today. Unfortunately, this headset looks like all the rest of the clunky headsets released these past couple of years. All these techs still have a long way to go, IMO.

100% agree that these headsets/techs got a long way to go and that these are not really a showcase of what mixed reality will be capable of in the future.

Was just pointing it out because a few in this thread have said they were waiting to see if anyone would brand their hardware with the "MR abreviation" and as far as I am aware ASUS could very well be the first ones to do so.

I think it's an important step because for the abbreviation of MR to be associated with Mixed Reality, companies/Manufacturers havn't got to be afraid of using it so its good to see ASUS having the confidence to do so.

So basically looking at that headset I would as a consumer have no problem in identifying we have the "ASUS MR" headset which is compatible with "Windows Mixed Reality". And I would also quickly understand that the MR at the end of the word ASUS must be the abbreviation of mixed reality (y)

I know Elad posted a news article about these headsets. I just couldn't remember seeing him point out the "MR" abbreviation branding, which I personally thought was something worth highlighting.

I think the funny thing about this thread is anything containing the keyword AR & VR everyone likes. But when someone posts any useful info on MR it gets no love at all

I think it's best to have an open mind personally. Some of the people who were hating AR last year and saying people are wasting their money are now falling in love with it :xf.laugh:.

I agree, it's a good bump for the term usage. I'm not picking on MR. Honestly, I find these techs all pretty dull and boring at their present stage. They're neat and interesting for a few minutes, but then, meh...on with the rest of my day.

What I'm saying in general is that VR, AR, MR, and any other R, all have a long way to go before they're going to be truly viable and relevant beyond the fad stage of usage, IMO. One thing that moves faster than technology...is human interest, and it changes on a dime.

Humans, by nature, do not want to be tethered to any device. Or worse, have to wear silly looking, clunky, arduous headsets, that cover half your face. The technology as a whole needs to evolve, and take a giant leap forward, so it doesn't lose momentum and interest, inevitably resulting in another giant fall backward.

It's still somewhat early, despite some of these techs being around for decades, so I'm hopeful the makers will hit one out of the park soon with their devices, as well as, their content. Time will tell.

Excellent.

Soon more and more companies will embrace / invest in the future of Mixed Reality (MR).

I am confident being able to to sell one or more MR domains to end users before the end of the year.

WebXRGames is my only XR domain....to go with my WebVRGames, WebARGames and WebMRGames (Microsoft or Magic Leap might coin the term "WebMR" some day...who knows, but I doubt it lol)

Diversity is OK. I'm taking a gamble with the whole "Web__" thing all together, so I'm not stranger to risk.

A lot of people I know who are not into technology know what AR is now thanks to Pokemon Go. AR is 1,000 times more known than MR and XR anyway. And the majority of people who know about MR probably think it's just AR with more features...

  • Only few days away now
  • Hopefully mention of Ar or Ai

They have no choice but to announce something AI related and everyone expects them to mention something AR related, so they may be pressured to at least give us a sneak peak.

I'm reading that the Ai piece will be an Apple "speaker" to compete with Google Home / Amazon echo / etc... As to "AR," who knows...

I think Apple is pressured to keep up with the VR crazy especially because they've fallen behind in secrecy. iPhone users feel left out, so they'll probably mention a mobile VR headset. Plus Apple likes to be the first, so they will probably want to showcase their AR glasses before the other big corps do...this summer hopefully. Just my hunches

Tim cook has said many times you don't have to be first but you have to be best there's no shame in second as long as your product finishes first

I think there will be no showing of ar glasses apple always gives little away

Yeah, true and they proved that with the Apple watch. But they are falling too far behind the race in my opinion, even though the realities industry is just getting started. The usual pattern with these big corps is that they announce and then release about 4 to 8 months later, so if they don't announce this summer they'll be super behind.

I think it is cool looking. Honestly, I don't care if it is clunky or not. I am just super excited/grateful that it even exists to use. The masses can wait years for a smaller streamline version......I'll be ecstatic using a clunky one in the meantime!

I'm not trying to downplay any of these techs, but tend to feel that for true everyday usage on a mass level, usage that enhances the daily lives of consumers, not hinders it, look to AR, with smart phones and smart glasses at the top of that proverbial food chain, IMO. Time will tell.

Obviously headsets will continue offer some great experiences. Gaming, porn, studying, reading, music, travel, etc. Things that don't involve much to use or achieve the intended experience, but have a limited scope of movement, and are more static.

I'm still a fan of these techs, and their devices, and am rooting for them all to advance and do well. I just find them dull and boring at the present time, and am looking forward to what the future holds.
