I received an email today from Jason Samose, Business Development for Demand Media. He stated Sheeraz has decided to "partner" with Demand Media and use the ChannelMe.tv platform.

Are we all partnering with Demand Media when we use ChannelMe.tv ? I am not sure did not know I was a partner or maybe he getting a special deal.

Interesting that such a high profile domain would use a basic platform like Channel Me.tv. Again IMO

Look Demand Media want as many people using their tools as possible. Why shouldn't they? They should aim to get as many people using it as possible. Certainly nobody is twisting anyone's arm.

Also internet phenomena have been built on less than what is available on channelme (think about all the "internet celebrities" that made it with their YouTube or MySpace pages - Brookers, Tila Tequila, etc).

No out of the box site is going to allow you to create the equivalent site of what a bunch of custom developers can. But the problem is that custom developers cost $, sometimes a lot of $.

I understand why some would criticize me.tv, but lets remember that they are only a few updates away from expanding the functionality ten fold, We should not assume what we see now is the way it will always be.

We must also remember that the demand to have your own version of myspace with a name that you actually own and a page you actually control is something alot of people (especially in music) want.

Im not saying it is going to be as big as myspace, but the concept is there, no question, I think we need to at least give them to May 1st 2008...

Headaches...Put yourself in Hollywood.tv shoes-I am disappointed too. Feel Mixed

I been thinking about this since yesterday.

I can say this-hollywood.tv is a very smart team and owner in this.

I agree-customization is key and demand media surly needs some help on that front. I also agree why would you want a high profile name and future traffic on a channel me site.

The conclusion-he did whats right for him and his team. As some of us all ready know this-customization is very expensive, bandwith, web hosting and things dont get overnight.

Now, I believe Hollywood has investors behind this. The problem with partners at times, investors, angel investors, share voting and etc-being the founder or ceo looses power or control eventually. Maybe the investors want an exit plan? Maybe Demand media hooked him up on programs-like customization, higher payouts on google, cheap stock options for there future ipo and its a good way for there team to cash out without the headaches and worries for the next 2 years of developments, headaches, investors, etc.

Point being-No one will probably know the truth. This shocked me. I just sense demand media is going after all the geo type people with big names behind them...Namepros .tv thread and a good 5 people with amazing names-geos and etc...I am sure you will be approached on the same way Hollywood.tv has.

Demand is gearing for an ipo, they have deep pockets with goldman sachs.

Overall I feel mixed about this. I would have loved in seeing a founder grow this themelves, customization and etc. But the problems, hurdles, reporting to your investors, board of directors, partners, etc. there are many variables and they probably got an amazing package. Its like a stockbroker at merril Lynch thats a 1 million dollar producer and firms recruit that person for a 4 year contract, bring the book to the new firm and the broker gets a nice office, tons of up front money and etc...Similar to hollywood.tv-i think there exit is demand media cash and stock options.

Now onto this...If Demand media wants to impress wallstreet with views, traffic, etc. they seriously need to attempt Justin.tv and etc.....So they attempt the GEO owners, key term.tv owners, justin.tv and a couple of the big boys are in name pros. I see this........

Again-I feel very mixed about this and wish they had gone solo. Myself, I have raised money before, have a buiness partner(not with domain names-thank god-lol). Point is when you get another team, investors, partners, bring domain names to you and have domainers all considered one group-its all not an easy task and more headaches. I am perfectly happy in doing all this myself-no reporting, I make the calls, I dont need to report to what I have done today to anyones. Just me, my laptop, watching the morning news, and my dog is next to me on the couch. Do I miss an angel investor in this-sure I do. Do I miss the needed capital to go out and buy the detroit.tv for 15k. Sure I do. I think about things like this every day and who knows maybe one day I will raise the needed money but for the time being I am happy, going after my passions, waking up in the morning and seeing wow-100 visits with 20 clicks and etc..You get the point.

These are just my thoughts. The perks of a forum, rumors, theories, thoughts, people in the bizz, national comes on, a non player like me, others, geo owners thoughts and etc.........

Hope this helps and I have experienced what hollywood.tv faces every day(similar mind process with investors and etc). I experienced that offline, I am happy to being 100 percent solo!

What the hell is wrong with these people? Now his site looks even more crappy then it did before. And why the hell is he hosting his videos on youtube and then linking to them. Channel me has a method to upload your own video for hosting there and it works fine.

Now this is just downright bad to move to a new hosting company and then they won't even have had the foresight to get all his videos setup locally instead of just having him link to youtube?

You all can tout channelme.tv all you want, but as long as they keep slopping things around with bandaids, I really can't see why we should give them any credibility as of yet. Even local showed that the main site, channelme.tv was getting about 350 views a month.

They need to completely revamp what they are doing with channel me because what I see right now doesn't give me any hope that they will be any better a year from now.

I agree with you 100%. Considering the exposure that Hollywood.TV gets on Entertainment Tonight, it's critical that visitors are sent to a professional looking website.

Hmmm... here we all are analyzing someone else's business model while some of us are doing nothing to promote the extension, build awareness of our own brands/domains, generating substantial traffic and revenue with our .TV domains, etc...

If you're wondering why he's hosting his videos on YouTube, perhaps it is because they are reliable, embeddable, have a huge userbase and CHEAPER than paying for your own hosting. Have any of you ever had a self-hosted video get downloaded/viewed 10,000+ times on your own dime? 100,000 times? nearly 1,000,000 times? Would you want to receive a bill from your hosting company for $10K for 1 month?

Well I have... and I did receive a bill for several thousand dollars, even though I was prepared for it, I wish YouTube was one of my options.

why on earth would I pay my own hosting bill when there are advantages to having your videos hosted for FREE on multiple sites, sites that can generate loyal viewers, subscribers, etc? Several of our sites we are rolling out will definitely have videos hosted on YT & elsewhere with our watermark to get in front of a larger audience.

I have no desire to analyze Sheeraz's business because at this point in time, when it comes to .TV development, he is far ahead of me... and I am grateful to watch and learn. Granted, I love National's "Election.TV" - beautiful execution, but if his videos start getting near 1,000,000 views - YouTube is always a viable option.

I dont think its easy to build a brand under utube and other sharing videos websites watermark underneath it.

I m starting to see channelme.tv like those tv shows that host gossips and fake news and videos that are usually taken from other shows, they just paste them into their show and discuss about them

For me channelme.tv is GOSSIP PLATFORM

I believe Hollywood's watermark is on the video, YouTube's is on the player itself... the same way we do it. No way around it.

I do see everyone side of the argument, however, I really think we need to see until around May 1 ,2008

Until they spend money on tv advertising .tv, like godadddy does on tv about godaddy, .tv will languish in relative obscurity.......until then promoting a friend's website Gator . tv, in which RR is an investor, still shows that he is not fully committed to .tv unless there is some other angle from which to reap dividends
