High Priced Domains - Good Idea, Badly Managed

What is up with the threads in High Priced Domains section?

I think the idea of this forum is the best idea I've seen on NamePros so far. It makes the place more professional, and it allows sellers with good domains to get more exposure and more serious buyers. And it helps the buyers find premium domains easily.

The thing is, half of the domains aren't premiums. I am sorry that I can be singling out some of these sellers, but I do not find these domains to be worth $1000+:

MyMusicForum.com
Uscp.com
Icute.com
Niche-domains.co.uk
Sicktv.com
Gopc.com
Devtalk.com

And this isn't all of them. There are much more. I am sorry, but for some of these, I wouldn't pay register fee. I am sorry for singleing out some of these sellers, but let's be realistic here. I have no problems sellers putting high end user prices on their domains, I mean I'm sure some such as devtalk.com, gopc.com, and uscp.com can fetch $1000+ to end-users, but they just don't belong in High Price Domains.

My problem with this is that it clugs up the forum. All the good domains are dropped to page 2, 3, 4, 5, etc because of these types of domains. And this gives less exposure to sellers, and reduces the professionality of the forum.

Other than that, the High Price Domains idea is good.

I'm speaking my mind here. Let's get some better management here. And I also have a suggestion, maybe a LLL/NNN For Sale forum only? That would really be nice.

I agree with you cfguru360 to a point, but I don't know if RJ or any of the other mods want to step right out and flat out say, no - that domain is not worth $1000. The fact is, that even a marginal domain could be sold for $1,000 to an end user. Some of those domains obviously would never be sold at $1,000 in the current market, but I guess you never know. Perhaps institute a rule that RJ has to appraise the domain at least $750 resell value before it is allowed to post there. I think RJ is pretty fair in appraising, and that would get rid of the argument of people trying to say that there domain is worth millions, when in fact they would be lucky to get reg. fee.

I'd suggest raising the barrier to $5,000 because too many can argue their domain is worth $1,000

That would make it easier for RJ to appraise and moderate maybe?

Ya, that would be fine with me...$5,000, $10,000, whatever the consensus is of what a premium domain is worth.

The seller should decide this prices and s/he should accept themselves if the price is too high and there domains do not sell,

just my 2c.

No. Completely disagree. Half the sellers here think their domains are worth something that they are not. We need somebody that has a good understanding of reseller pricing and really is a tough guy, this way no friends or people you feel bad for are allowed to sell their junk domains in that section.

I will post the same reply I posted in your reported thread.

--------------------------------------------------

- Determining a domain's value, or whether it's a so-called "premium" name.. is highly subjective.

- Any member of the NP Staff and FL's can approve a name for that section, bringing the human factor (and different opinions) into play multiple times over.

- It's one of the new sections from the recent marketplace expansion, and we are still looking for trends and usage. Overall, I think we've been fairly picky on which names get in.

As always, we continue to tweak and improve. Your feedback helps a lot, thank you!
