Hello everyone!

My I am new to domaining and have been researching on the same since the past month or so.
Here are a few things which I would like to discuss with NamePros community!

I have been doing some research on 5 letter domains and we all know that in near future all pronounceable 5 letter combinations will be taken, just like what happened with 4 letter domains.

But the real question is when? And how we can benefit from it (by starting early).

As we all know that there's 11.8 million possible combinations for the 5 letter domains. Which are a lot of domains! But the possible CVCVC combinations are only 231,526 & VCVCV are 55,125. And if I count only the "premium letters" then these number further go down to like one fifth of them.

So, by keeping that in mind, would it be safe to assume that if we were to hold at least a handful of great pronounceable 5 letter domains in the above format and we renew it each year for about 5-10 years (I know it's a lot, but hear me out) then maybe we can really profit a lot from them?

As I have observed with the 4L domains, some of the really good ones were available for hand registering back in 2004-2005, so if I had registered those domains and kept renewing for 10 years, I would have easily made a huge profit. It might have made me a millionaire too! :)

Thanks for reading. I am open to all kind discussions, sharing ideas, etc. And by the way, I am an active seller on Flippa, just new to the domain world.

Anyway, such a great and informative forum! :D

Regards,
Shahil

Welcome to NP @Genius327! How many 5L domains are you planning to acquire as part of your strategy?

Hi Genius,

Welcome. I think it is great that you are taking your time and reading forum before doing some rush purchases like most of us did. From mathematical perspective your deduction is correct, but it is the availability factor which determine the price. There are about 500000 LLLL available and probably about 10-15% (7500) are usable as pronounceable brands. Still only probably 1000 of them are having high value $10000+.(estimate). But if you have lets say 500000 of pronounceables (you cannot calculate only these cases VCVCV, CVCVC) the pool is much bigger hence it is very unlikely the price will go up asmuch across the board. I do believe that investment on strong pronounceable 5 letter .com is smart, but hoping that any (VCVCV, CVCVC) will reach high value is unrealistic IMHO.

Anyway if you stumble on strong 5 letter name for reasonable price I do believe that such purchase is good investment (since you can sell it as brand able for 1000+ $ within year or two.

Good Luck

Hi Arca,

I am thinking about acquiring at least 25 domains and I find that it would be cost around $2500 over the course of 10 years. I know it's a long shot but I only need to sell 1 brandable 5 letter domain to a potential end user in the course of a decade to cover the overall cost maintaining this 'brandable domain portfolio.'

I have already acquired a few handfuls but in CVCCV pattern, but from now on I am sticking to CVCVC and VCVCV only.

The reason is that I have calculated that the total possible number of domains in CVCVC format is only 35,152 and VCVCV are only 10,816 (if I only count "premium" letters).

I would be glad to receive further comments or suggestions from you and from the NamePros community.

Thanks,
Shahil

Welcome Shahil and let me say you are very good at researching 5 letters domains. Also appreciate you long term planning to be a millionaire. I do understand that this is a long route but as far as I know Flippa marketplace, I don't think it may take such a long time so if you have really great cvcvc(s) and active on flippa, just do the right things to get at least first step towards your millionaire destination.
I wish you Good luck and any queries and questions are welcomed.

Hello Muttus,

Thank you and I really appreciate your reply.

Well, from what I have observed with recent trends in 4L CVCV and VCVC patterned domain sales, I can safely say that if I had such a premium domain with me right now, I would have easily flipped it for at least in $1500 - $2500 range, even higher to an end user.

Special thanks to NameBio.

I agree that the pool is indeed much bigger than just the CVCVC and VCVCV. With the pool being bigger now with 5L the number of internet businesses, domain investors and start-ups have also skyrocketed, and I am still not even taking into consideration the 50% of the people in the world who doesn't even have internet access yet.

These are just my thoughts and predictions. I further believe there will be scarcity of brandable domain names in a decade with the current speed of expanding usage of internet and just about everyone registering domains. :)

The worst which could happen is that I will not be able to sell a lot of my domains, but that's just about it. You know I am not even thinking to sell any until at least 2-3 years. They are basically worthless right now (yes, that said that) but that's only because they are available for hand registering, which won't be the case in about a decade. :)

Best regards,
Shahil

Hello and thank you!

I do sell websites on Flippa since about 3 months now. I am 21 and yes I am new to the world of domaining. I find NamePros to be such a great forum. It's only been 1 day since I have started digging into the forum. I did find out that there is also another thread especially for 'short brandable domains..'

Anyways, thanks and really appreciate your reply!

See you around! :D

Best regards,
Shahil

Actually, good 5 letter are sold for x.xxx right now. What I was saying is that with bigger pool you have to be more selective while in LLLL field almost anything goes. Otherwise your reasoning a strategy is correct.

Hello Shabash!

Thank you for the warm welcome and the compliments.

Yes I do agree, Flippa is a great marketplace and it wouldn't take as much time to be able to sell them, but I am just getting prepared for the worst... :D

Good luck to you too! I will sure to be checking out on some of the auctions you're running here as I think they are quite interesting. :)

Keep in touch.

Best regards,
Shahil

Hi Muttus,

That is indeed a great advice! I will make sure to keep that in mind and will certainly drop any name if I even encounter a slightest doubt. Have to measure up the quality control, right? :)

By the way, you should fix the link in your signature. It's going to a 'permission denied' page.

Thanks,
Shahil
