Here's a new PayPal problem...

Tried to use PayPal today to pay for an eBay auction, and I get this little message:

"Why is my account access limited?

Your account access has been limited for the following reason(s):

Jan. 14, 2005: In accordance with the PayPal User Agreement, your account has been closed. If you feel that we have closed your account in error, please contact PayPal Customer Service.

Your funds may be held for 180 days from the date of your last transaction. After 180 days, you will be able to access your funds by requesting an online bank transfer or, if applicable, a check from PayPal.

(Your case ID for this reason is ________________.)"

So informative?

Nah.

So surprising?

Nah.

Anyone get anything like this before? The only thing not-typical I can think of that I've been doing is using "shop-safe" numbers so that they never have a real working card again (I had my account hacked and thousands of dollars taken and PayPal did absolutely nothing to help.).

I know that you are requied to have a valid CC on file, that could be it. Usually they send you a "friendly" reminder email.

"Shop-Safe numbers" What is that? Am I misunderstanding or out of the loop on this?

Yep, Listened to the whole conversation. Man Paypal can bite sometimes. They really should get accredited as a bank so they have to follow the same laws as "Real" Money institutions.

I have had many a bad experience with PayPal, and luckily I have "back ups" available to me when it comes to PayPal (Unfortunately, because many sellers only accept PayPal I feel the need to keep the account.).

"Shop safe" are single use card #'s generated by your card issuer (Mine was MBNA in this case) that don't last past one transaction.

Why do I use them? Because PayPal has not protected me in the past on many levels, and has allowed thousands of dollars to be transferred w/o my consent (Something those of you in the banking/finance industry might be more familiar with, but when you see a transaction at PayPal or your bank, it really isn't complete for at least a business day. I caught it, but PayPal wouldn't stop the transaction, although they still could have.) Also, they allowed a dispute with a buyer to tie up my entire account (thousands of dollars) for 73 days when the transaction in question was for $3.18.

PayPal has been horrible to me, so I'm not surprised that it is continuing, that is the bottom line.
