I am very confused...First please tell which one is better....buycar.net or buy-car.com....How much will be the difference in valuation?

I am getting few hyphenated .coms whose unhyphenated .com sold for over 10k...

for e.g, if buycar.com sold for 10k
buy-car.com is available to register for 10 bucks..

what will be the difference of the price b/w a unhphenated domain and hyphenated domain?

Should I buy them?

Some of the domain name does make sense but they have not any keyword in it...

Please help...

Available to buy YES
Available to register NO (long time ago)

I don't know where are you checking availability of domain names, but you need to change that place.

Try here Buy-car.com - Buy Car

buy-car.com
Creation date: 18 Apr 2001 05:14:30
Expiration date: 18 Apr 2011 05:14:00

Cheers!

It really all depends on why you're purchasing the domain for.

If you're purchasing it for resell, then non-hyphen domains might sell better than hyphen one's, but on the other hand, I've seen opposites too.

If you're developing, the jury's out for this as well, some claim that hyphen domains don't do well for SERP's and some claim that they do!.

In the end, it's all a personal choice, there's no right or wrong answer to your question!

After reading your post carefully, it's safe to assume that you are a domainer or aspire to be one. In such a situation, my sincere advice is to stay million miles away from hyphenated names. In most cases they are worthless and that is the reason that they are available to register.

Do not listen to the ill-informed people who are deluded by a few sales of hyphenated names for high prices, as they fail to appreciate the high searchability and value of such keywords and then try to generalise them.

Remember! This is not a personal choice. Like any other industry, domaining industry is run by market forces and those who don't adhere to the market rules are doomed to fail.

Thanks Jawed...but one last query which I have is, are hyphenated keyword .coms are even worth registering for "reselling" or "developing" if all of the other extensions are taken and I have no other choice?

It depends on the keyword; maybe 5% of them are worth registering for development and 1% for reselling purposes. However, if I'm newbie, I'd not go for high-risky options, would I?
