Help with GoDaddy Backorder vs GoDaddy Reseller

Last week I placed an order for a name expiring from the pool. It is not an incredibly valuable domain but I was interested enough to place a backorder through GoDaddy with my Investor's Edge account. I checked snap, nj, all the catchers and no one was interested or bidding. The domain in question was previously at Netsol or Enom.

Come drop day, I look to see if I have a new domain in my inbox and instead a GoDaddy reseller has picked up this name. :'( In this case the reseller is Go Canada Domains Inc., and I have seen them catch a backorder of mine before but didn't think anything of it. Can anyone confirm Go Canada is a reseller? I noticed they are using Securepaynet.net as their auth system so I assume this is the case.

Don't GD domain resellers have the same interface as customers, except with a few more bells and whistles?

More importantly is how do they beat GoDaddy's backodrer system and should I ask for my $30 monthly subscription fee back? :(

they might be using GD API with an automated script ......

So GD resllers get an API which they can customize for scripting registrations? Maybe I need one of those.

I believe there is a GoDaddy rep with an account here who posts occassionally, but can't remember his name.

To be quite honest. If the domain was expiring from Netsol or eNom, you should have backordered it at NameJet. That having been said. GoDaddy does not allow 2 backorders on the same domain. So however they captured it, it wasn't with a GoDaddy backorder.

So this is even odder - the domain now shows me as the registrant. I called GoDaddy and they confirmed Stub's statement, there is no way for a reseller to supersede an end user's backordered domain. However GD had no answer on what would have caused whois to reflect a reseller's name for several hours before updating with mine.

I won't place BOs at NJ because $59 is too much for the little ones I pick up. With GD or Snap I can pay as little as $9 per BO so that makes a huge difference in terms of resale.

Weblord thanks for the link, much appreciated. I remember having seen that somewhere and couldn't find it when I was looking today.

Congrats on getting the domain. It'll only be a matter of a few hours (less than 24) before it's in your account.

I believe Godaddy uses its various ICANN accredited registrars including ones under names like like "Go China Domains", "Go Australia Domains", "Go Canada Domains" to capture backordered domains for their customers. In the future, if you place a backorder and one of these registrars get the domain, then the backorder was probably successful.
