Hey people,

Rite now im confused.

See i am planning to take up paid hosting and my budget is 10$/month

I surfed the net and came across hostgator web hosting plan.

There current plan i.e Baby Plan includes following :

5gb diskspace.
75gb bandwidth.
Unlimited domain hosting.
Cpanel + all the standard features + unlimited databases and unlimited pop3 accounts.

Im getting this for 9.95$/month which is well in my budget. + its monthly payment.

So my question is : is this kinda offer Cheap or Costly!?

Also how is the reputation of hostgator.com

Yeah that's pretty cheap. I've heard good things about hostgator - you'll see them advertising on Sitepoint.

I haven't used them in a while but 8 months or so ago, they were absolute rubbish, 'd start support chat and ask my question then wait 20 mina for a couple word answer which didn't answer, it would take about 1hr 30mins to answer the original question which I might add i found the answer to on google but thought i'd check it out..services went down rather a lot mainly mysql and databases would go missing....like i said 8 months or so ago maybe they have changed...

Haven't heard anything good about host gator. If you search these forums about them, you will find a few horror stories.

Yeah, we actually got a few customers that originally came from HostGator... they thought their support was arrogant, and didn't like the way everything was handled with the company

As discussed elsewhere this plan is very cheap and is probably not what your looking for. It is massively oversold, my only question is, why would you want 5 gb space? Would you really use it? I'd suggest going for something your more apt to use. We hear of lots of stories where someone buys a plan with 2-3 gb space and 30-40 gb bandwidth for $10-$15 yet they only use 200 mb space and 2 gb bandwidth. They could easily get that deal for $5..

I should also add, we don't target the people looking for cheap plans. We merely let them go to web hosts offering plans like the one request, then after a couple months they realize that companies like Hostgator isn't what their looking for and they end up going with us as we provide quality and not quantity.

Possible...yes.

Plausible...no.

Hosting companies can charge whatever they want for their products but this doesn't mean that they'll be able to stay in business or even have the proper amount of service.

As far as good reviews on HG, that will vary. I can assure you that I've seen an equal number of good and bad reviews about them and it comes down to what you expect. If you're comfortable paying for something you'll never use then that's fine by me, it's certainly not my choice.

However, how ironic is it that at the time of my post, 5:50 PM EST, the Serveage.net website is down? This just gives you an idea of the type of quality to expect from hosts who promise everything for nothing. I can assure you this is pretty much the standard for such hosting.

If you're comfortable on an oversold sever with 150-200 other people who all think they have the same amount of space and transfer as you when in reality there is actually a fraction of it then go right ahead.

its a good price

It's an absurd price--they can't offer that for any lenght of time. If your sites are important, don't trust them to a company that promises the world of pennies. The bandwidth alone is more than a full T-1. Wholesale costs for the bandwidth exceed what they are quoting.

Thanx for an honest opinion...i really appreciate it..i too agree with your mindset but the thing is i have been having my sites on free hosting never really have gone for paid hosting. So basically im not familiar with which paid hosting is good with free service. so im discussing this topic here where people are familiar with the hosting companies and there services.

Hope you get my point.

Thanx.

Regards,

Admans

Since you were always on free hosting, I'm guessing you weren't too much space? Right?
