I've just realised that the way I approach .TV names is very different than just a few months ago. In many ways - and like many of the people who have been here some time - we have evolved.

Perhaps we should pass on some of our hard-found (and sometimes expensively bought) wisdom one tip at a time.

Of course, much of the old-style era of .TV has disappeared but there are still some hard and fast experiences we can share....

My single tip is simple:

1. 'It is better to buy one good name for five years (while the intro reg is cheap) than five not-so-good names for one year each (and then be hit 12 months later with much increased price renewals)

Perhaps others might wish to pass on their tips for making a better .TV experience...

Pricing for current .tv's right now has way too many variables.
There is nothing consistent, and may not be for a little while.

Do your research but one thing's for sure...
If you have 1 or 2 Killer "Must Have" .tv's in mind,
Trust your gut, and pull the trigger!

Listen for advice from seasoned .tv pro's, but at the end of the day you should still be confident enough to make your own decisions.

And most importantly in my opinion: Don't be a sheep!

My advice would be to visit the forum frequently!!

Had it not been for this forum I would have missed out on some nice domains. Although I was a little late into the goldrush I would have got nothing had I not been here.

Very important thing!

To register a .tv domain your must be a citizen of Tuvalu! If you don't know how to become a citizen, just PM me - currently have 16 passports for $250 only each! First come, first serve! :)

It's a joke! :)

Talking seriously, I'll agree with Len. This Subforum is a great place, friendly atmosphere, experienced members and lots of important information! .tv is a special extension, not all keywords would work with it. So think twice before you register/purchase the name.

This is what I look for:

Product or Service with either high search or high tickets items. For example, homes.tv great, pencils.tv not good, always go with high ticket if you can.

I always start with Broad and than go specific, Homes.tv better than SanDiegoHomes.tv.
Software.tv better than FreeSoftware.tv. However, that is for domain only and not for development. I think if your goal is for development, than specific would be better.

Another factor, does it fit good with the .tv extension. I love sports/travel names because it fit's good with .tv, such as Football.tv, LasVegas.tv. To me, I rather have Football.tv than Business.tv or Computer.tv any day.

Look at trends, where is the growth. My first .tv name I bought was in July, 2000 and it was Pornografia.tv (Pornography) in Spanish. I am not into adult but I was looking more at Gems in the spanish market and I feel that way more so than ever.

I don't like adjectives, such as hot, excitement, etc. Yes, I know they do sell sometimes, but I like to have a keyword domain that explains what your product or service is, which helps with development.

I love service domains where there is no product as well because your market can be set-up worldwide, Software, Downloads, Music, Gambling, Games. No product to ship, can be automated to a worldwide audience and brings in more end users who would pay top $$$$.

If I had a choice on what domains to get, here would be my top 5.

Gamble-High Ticket/High Volume
Juegos-Spanish for Games/Gambling-High Ticket/High Volume
Homes-High Ticket
Sex-High Volume
Video-High Volume, fit's perfect with .tv
After that, top Geo's, top sports,

Thanks, Jim
