I did. A very small donation, but a donation nonetheless. I use wikipedia all of the time, it's a great free resource and I think it deserves a little appreciation from it's users. When you visit their site the header is now asking for donations. Last week there was a chart as the header displaying that they were about 1/2 way to their $3 million donation goal. Just a heads up for anyone that didn't know they were taking donations.

If you would NOT donate to wiki would you care to share why? (besides the obvious reasons of being tight on money, bills to pay, etc..)

Does WikiPedia really need another 3 million?

Why can't they just divert funds from their for profit businesses.

I must admit, it seems like a great deal of money. I hope Wikipedia isn't pulling an ICANN here -- non-profit my ... (I'll stop there  )

Screw Wikipedia. It's inaccurate so many times, and people think it's gospel.

They do have funny pictures when you search sexual terms, though :tu:

I tried to do them a favor and change one of their articles where they referred to domaining as "domaineering" to domaining and one of their idiot editors who clearly hasn't a clue changed it back to domaineering.

I'm starting to like Yahoo more and more... At least they don't let Wikipedia own #1/#2 rank on every bloody search term >:(

Totally agree with Reece. I'm sick of seeing Wikipedia ranking #1 or #2 on the SERPs for almost every single search term.

I DID think of donating the first time I saw that donation bar. But I changed my mind because it is supposed to be non-profit. THAT'S WHY WE USE IT, THAT'S WHY IT'S AS POPULAR AS IT IS. Asking people for donations is just ridiculous and should be against their TOS.

Come on, think of how silly it is to donate to a collaborative encyclopaedia...people post enlightening information FOR FREE and then Wikipedia exploits that by asking for donations...

Yes. I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to donate unused bandwidth if that's the issue -- I for one would spare a few hundred gigs and I'm sure many others would as well. But I'm not paying money for something people contribute to for free.

And that Wikia project is a total sham :imho:

I will only once they give up the top spot on many searches. I'm tired of being second.

Their goal is actually $6 mil.
