I always see GoDaddy trying to sell me my personal domain by that i mean your first and last name .com

ex.

JohnSmith.com

I haven't really found a good reason to buying it. I could use it as a portfolio site for my photography but I don't know.

So have you bought it?

If your exact name as a .com is available, I think you should buy it. Of course it's great if you can get your FirstName.com or LastName.com alone, but if those are too common to still be available which is the case for most people, a FirstNameLastName.com (which you're talking about here) is an excellent "personal" domain.

Just think about it, what's is several dollars to you? If you lay down the few bucks to buy your FirstNameLastName.com, it will be an online identity for you to keep forever as long as your renew it. You can use it as a personalized email address like [email protected] (see Google Apps), forward the domain to a personal webpage (or your profile on Facebook, Myspace, or whatever network). Many well-known people overlook this and don't buy their FirstNameLastName.com domain when it is still available for reg fee and it gets taken up by somebody else. Why not save yourself the hassle of trying to buy your name from somebody else later on when you want it and just register it now?

It's unfortunate that by the time I registered my first domain, my FirstNameLastName.com was already taken, and right now it is still taken. I registered my FirstNameLastName.org, which I'm very happy to have (I don't think it's essential to have the .com, although its nice), and I am now using that for my email address and plan to put up a personal site on it in the future.

My .com was already taken by some photo album a parent put up for his kid. I had to settle for the .net which sucks, because I actually have a site on it.

I have my last name in .com. don't use it just yet. Once i have enough (good) images together, i'll be using it for my photography or business site.

I pick up the best name I can find for grand kids. The last two I had to go with first initial, middle initial, last name. However, especially for girls, that's probably better anyhow.

My whole family has their .com's. However, since I go by my middle name I took middle and last. My one daughter is an entertainer so we got her .com and .net some time ago. I purchased the .com for my other daughter for her portfolio. This Christmas I was on a domain buying frenzy and hubby got his domain name as a stocking stuffer!

I have my name .com

It's nothing really, just a one page site with an image link to my email.

But it just feels good to type my name into search engines - and see my name and my site as the first listing.

I bought my full name in .com. I've had a few people end up on some of my blogs by googling my full name so I thought it would be a good thing to have. Haven't developed it yet, might just redirect it to one of my blogs or use it as a little bio on me -- not sure yet.

Alas, my firstnamelastname is taken in com, net, co.uk, info, eu, org, me, and probably more, my firstnamemiddleinitiallastname is taken in com, and my firstinitialmiddleinitiallastname is taken in com, net, and org.
So I use my alias .co.uk (barrucadu.co.uk).

Surely you'd want it in .ME?

No. For my own website/blog I'm fine with a simple Wordpress.com blog. I don't need a .com, as I don't use my name as a brand, I have other brands...

Nope. My first name is too common, my last name is an established company, and FirstLast is taken with Mike and Michael and the owners don't want to let them go.

I own my nickname in com and last name in .me. My full proper first name and last name were taken by someone in Canada for the last 5 years, but just last month I saw it expiring so I backordered it and have it. I don't normally use first+last in this manner but I figured for 10 bucks, why shouldn't I keep it? Since I register my names and corporation under this first/last I figured might as well.
