When I first heard of Demand Media's role in the .TV ext., I thought they were going to be promoting it like crazy.

It seems they have done more for a domain (me.tv) than the extension. Am I right or wrong?

I have seen a painfully small effort put towards pumping .tv, while an enormous effort is being tossed at promoting one website. How many promotional gigs have you seen to educate the general or business community about the possibilities of .TV?

I think that is enough of a springboard to get some good feedback.

Difficult question to answer.......have they done stuff - absolutely - have they done enough/could they do more - absolutely they could do more.......

However, it is no coincidence that people have been piling into the extension since they took over management.......no one has helped the extension more then DM at least until the very recent goings on at GD.

Now with GoDaddy showing strong interest, it may well pressure Demnand Media to really sell the extension - and yes - that would include a dreaded TV commercial campaign that is "not in the plan" for the marketing budget.....

BTW - Kudos to Kevin for getting an interview with Bob Parsons......!!

Addon question.

What would you suggest DM do to promote the EXTENSION effectively? Not their "tools". But the extension.

In other words, where/how do they need to promote?

Promote .tv On Tv - Simple As That

That way instead of getting the "whats .tv" response, you get the yeh.TV - cool ad....that chick is hot!!!

Remind you of anyone?

So if it is "simple as that", why hasn't Rosenblatt's crew figured it out? (Unless, they are more intent on building their corner.)

Good question, and that was the one question Quinn side stepped in my second interview with her - "not in our plans"......what does that mean....WHY NOT????

Thats the real question that needs answering - why are DM not advertising on TV..........

My honest opinion is that Rosenblatt was not expecting another registrar to jump on board and promote heavily. He also expected it to take off without effort. It didn't and it took them by surprise. Now with Bob Parson's stepping in, Rosenblatt, in my opinion, is getting his ass handed to him.

I would guess, that since GoDaddy lowered prices there have been more registrations in the last two months than in the last two years. I would further guess, and again, this is MY OPINION, that Parsons is aiming for the exclusive tv contract. Ostensibly for the premium name fees, but for the contract in particular.

Me.tv tools are ok, but they are lacking. IF you think you will every be able to FULLY monetize without giving a piece to demand, you are nuts.

Also, if they really want me.tv to take off, they would offer a free version. Something like "bobsplace.me.tv". Without that simple thing, they will NEVER compete with things like myspace and facebook. Never. Free will always win for things like this.

I basically am actively wanting to sell anything I have on me.tv tools. If I really was going to do anything with it, it certainly wouldn't still be on their platform.

need more promotion to the masses--look like GoDaddy is beginning to do that.
when the masses get "it" thats when dot tv will really take off imo
we've preached to the choir enough.

DM has done almost nothing to promote .tv in low market, the one that most of the 'consumers' lie.
They 've made some tools but they only apply on their platform, so this promotes only me.tv and not .tv in general.
GoDaddy in 20 days gave more publicity to tv domains than DM did.
