Hi everyone,

I am considering the concept of leasing my domain Links.com. Is this a viable path? Has anyone tried it out and if so, has it worked out for your domains. I am trying to build value into Links.com, and this may be a viable way of doing it. Let me know what you guys think.

Also, does it make sense to cross-post on DNForums, or does everyone go to both forums as I do? Thank for help.

Business Name Leasing An Alternative to Franchising

How about this angle.

As everyone knows, why name a business if you cannot get the .com for it.

Example: Realtor John wants to start a real estate company and cannot find a name where the .com is available. He comes up with 25 great names and guess what? All the .coms are taken.

Domain Owner Sam owns some great real estate company names, like say Americas Homestore aka AmericasHomestore.com.

Because each area is specific, say Realtor John is in Columbus Ohio, Domain Owner Sam would lease the domain to Realtor John for say $19.00 per month on a yearly basis by area zip codes.

He would also lease Realtor John a corporate portal website for $10.00 per month (AmericasHomestore.com) that would tell all about his new realty company Americas Homestore and provide a link from the national AHS site to his local AHS site.

Domain Owner Sam would also register the domain and logo with the USPTO for legal protection.

Now after a year of marketing Domain Owner Sam has only 100 affiliates and is collecting $34,800 per year on auto pilot. Then 1000 affiliates after marketing for awhile = $348,000.00

Now take this concept into other areas and take it times 10 = $3,480,000.00 :bingo:

What do you think???

Dude, links.com is a six figure name just on it's own.

If you can't monetize it, you would be better served selling it and using the funds for some other purpose.

The kind of money you will make leasing it will make you laugh at ROI. Parking it might even get you higher income, I'm sure you get tons of type-in traffic.

To make your roi decent the kind of money investor would have to spend on leasing might not be worth it for them. Leasing is risky, specially in this business, as I see it.

If I spend even $10k on promoting what is essentially not mine, that money is gone forever and I might be better served buying xyzlinks.com for that price, at least it will still be mine and my ad spend will serve towards increasing the value of my domain.

Just my 0.02. good luck

Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses and advice. I was inquiring because of the new company LeaseThis.com which, I think, is partnered with Trafficz. Since I am still working on ideas of Links.com, I thought I might lease the name, while I am developing my own ideas. I am in no rush to sell, but it does take time to develop unique ideas - possibly years.

Thanks again for the responses.
