I have an idea! Who wants to have a contest and see who can make the best hand registration during the month of February? You have to create it during the month of February. As long as it says created 2/2019 it could have been a name born before that died and lost its age. Let me be clear, for my February contest the name has to be a new hand reg.
Any sponsors in the house? @namesilo @Epik.com @toughdomains @NameJetGM @name.com

Here are the rules of this DOT COM HAND REG FEBRUARY 2019 contest:
1. Hand registration during the month of February 2019
2. You may submit up to 3 domain names.
3. Each name must have its OWN reply, so if you want to submit 3 names, submit three replies
4. I am excluding myself from entering the contest since I am the judge!
5. I will narrow down to 3 names, and pick the winner.

What do you win?
Number one, props and clout here at Namepros.
I will personally pay up to $10 to add an extra year on the domain. That means dot com only for this contest.

Light clients, also known as Simple Payment Verification (SPV) clients, are nodes which only download a small portion of the data in a blockchain, and use indirect means to verify that a given chain is valid.
I don't need to read any others. This is a winner :) - I'll give you $50 for it right now.

My 2nd Entry

OK this is my first entry (not sure if I will do others) for the month.

BikesAbout

I liked the versatility of it (bike or ebike shop, information site, bike rentals, bike excursions, bike sharing, etc.) and multiple ways to interpret about, and did look at comparators, and do feel bike/ebike promising niche, but mainly I just loved how lively and memorable it sounded when I said it out loud! (maybe not scientific analysis :xf.wink:)

Thanks for the great contest @Want2learn!

How incredibly generous @Jared Ewy on behalf of Name.com! I am sure that @Want2learn will be excited about your sponsorship of the contest that he devised and has organized and that has got lots of participation from NPs members.

It is great to see companies step up in supporting initiatives that make the domain community more vibrant.

Bob
I even asked my boss so it's on the up and up.

First things first:

Congratulations!!!!!!!
AgriCoSolutions dot com is my winner for the month of February.

Let me confer with Name dot com to see how @Jared Ewy and company want to handle the $100. FWIW I was planning to do at least one more month of this contest. I liked it.

I think there is another person that wanted to contribute something as well.

Anyways I’ll get logistics settled later. I’m running errands now. 😎

My congratulations to @ecomslice for the winner, AgricoSolutions (.com). A very deserving winner.! When it becomes a huge company in a few years, we can all say we had a domain name in a contest it won :xf.smile:.

Huge thanks for @Want2learn - great idea and well handled month of competition.

Thanks also to @Jared Ewy and Name dot com for the generous prize.

We all won because I think this contest helped each of us
  • Have an additional push to find a good hand-reg and enter it in a competition.
  • See the creative possibilities demonstrated by so many of the entries. I am sure we all got ideas that will make us better domainers as a result of following this thread.
  • Domaining is often solitary, and the rules of NPs restrict (for good reason) self-promotion in most threads. This gave us all a legitimate way to share a recent registration that we were excited about.
  • I am not sure how many of us did this, but I think it is a really good exercise to look through the domain names and ask yourself how would you have selected the top 10 and top 1. What would your criteria have been? Self-reflection almost always makes us better domain investors.
Thanks for the fun and inspiration.

Bob

@ecomslice congratulations on the win , I know how hard you have been working to personally better your name choices and your knowledge of the industry .....keep up the good work .....anyone trashing ecom for having a go should be ashamed......maybe it’s not the best entry in many people’s eyes but it was the best entry in the judges eyes and that’s what counts.....well done @ecom

Yeah. Namepros could start something like this. Initial entries could have likes. Then take the top (whatever, 5,10) domains that get likes, put them in a poll for everybody to vote on. One of the prizes could come from Namepros, Upgraded account, free advertising (I won one of those before) etc. plus prizes from whoever else wants to contribute.

I see people say some things like this. I do happen to agree that some sort of panel would be best for judging. What I have a difficult time with is, your thoughts that Namepros will somehow do this type of thing. It’s great if they do though. Everyone has had an opportunity to start a contest, but no one else has that I’m aware of.

Anyways it’s all good. Maybe March will be better!!

@Want2learn -

1st let me say THANK YOU for providing the February Contest thread last month.

I found it interesting glancing at the variety of names submitted.

Suggestion - here is a "hybrid" approach that might meet many of the above objectives outlined - for your final pick for March, simply Pick 5 that had the most "likes" at the end of the month and add to that another Pick 5 that you personally pick (as the OP) - from this combined Top 10 list - then simply do a 24 hour Poll on the 1st of the following month (a 1 day poll).

The reason I make this suggestion is it provides...

1) Pick 5 - those 5 names with the most "likes" make it to the Top 10 (user involvement).
2) Pick 5 - those 5 names that you personally "like" (as the OP) makes it to the Top 10 (OP involvement).
3) Top 10 Poll - this involves everyone, but only for a specific 24 hour window so it doesn't drag on too long (ALL involvement).

You have done a terrific job providing this thread, and as such, I feel it's only fair that you should be provided a Pick 5 (OP) selection of your own to share with the audience. With that, having the Pick 5 (Likes) will engage the user audience to let others know via the "Like" Alert that they have been recognized as having a great hand-reg (sort of a "congrats" by each community vote).

Since name picking is subjective, it would be terrific to engage the entire audience in the Final selection - and a 1 day Top 10 Poll (the 1st of the month following the submissions process) is a terrific model to consolidate all that data and engage all those that contributed (along with those that maybe didn't)..

I hope the suggestion is helpful.

-Jim

ps: In the process, you remain the MC of the event and the entire audience is engaged and their voice (vote) is recognized.

@JB Lions / @Bob Hawkes / @Jevsim / @Josh R / @Silentptnr / @Ostrados / @Internet.Domains / @Bernard Wright - and others - What do you think of the "hybrid" model?

Community based voting wud be better. Also there needs to be two threads. One for submissions only and one for discussion.
Better idea! and count me in. Can't wait for February!

I’m not entering a name! I am able to be impartial! I do like the ideas mentioned though. I think what I would do next time is have a vote and have that count 25% I think we could find a three member panel to judge as well their vote would be 50% I would be a 25% vote in my own contests, which I’m not entering a name in.
The panel is a good idea. If you go that way, I think it would be important that every panel member is recognized as a "Pro" (with the official banner) here on NP. This way we know their opinions/choices are backed up by a successful track record.

Of course it's your contest idea, but for the sake of legitimacy (and if you want it to be an enduring tradition), I definitely think either using a panel of judges, or a community voting system is the way to go.

Great job taking this on.

Many uses:
  • Livestock management (see swinerobotics.com)
  • Meat processing machinery
  • Harley-Davidson electric consumer goods; Harley electric scooter (Harleys are sometimes called "hogs")
  • Harley-Davidson manufacturing equipment
  • Electronic sex toys (a large male member is sometimes called a "hog")
  • Robot pig toys
  • ...and various nondescript uses, like how "PorkBun" is a domain registrar and it works because it's a fun name.

Damn I hand regged CriticalDeadlines.com on the 29th jan.
How ironic.

The idea was started by @Want2learn and he prefers for Feb at least to keep as announced and I totally respect and agree with that. Rather than rush to create a separate thread and rules @Joe Nichols , which I think would cause confusion, why not simply make plans for some future month for the community vote competition.

Community voting without established criteria are not necessarily better. So if do go that way, I think someone needs to draft criteria.

Also I think easily there could be too many entries for an easy vote. So a first step of 'experts' narrowing to 12 or so that everyone votes on may be necessary.

JMHO

RealtimeConversations.com

Similar Sale:
RealtimeCommunications/com was sold for $13,500 in 2015 according to Namebio (https://namebio.com/realtimecommunications.com).

Rationale:
I think RealtimeConversations.com will be worth more than the above sale in the future because of 5G networks:
1. The extremely low latency of 5G networks will open up real time feature of applications, so I think "real time" will be a new hot keyword in the future.
2. Real-time data analytics will be realized thanks to 5G networks, allowing businesses to have real-time, personalized and insightful conversations with customers to have better customer engagement.
