im finishing up my first large website and have a few seo questions:

should i keep the h1 tag the same throughout all the pages (have about 100 or so) or tailor it to the more specific content of each individual page?

in regards to meta keywords and meta description:

it seems that i would logically write a different description for each page, but what about the keywords? i know they don't hold the weight they used to, but nonetheless, i still think meta relavance is fairly important -

should i tailor the meta keywords for each specific page or keep them the same throughout all pages?

rep added to all suggestions - thanks!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Make each H1 tag and the description unique and specific to the page. H1 carries a fair amount of SEO weight and the description (also an important on-page SEO element) is what will show up in the page snippet in the search results. Make good use of them.

Keywords should also fit the topic of the page, but the major search engines no longer use them for page indexing.

Words that don't describe your page content should NOT be in the description or the keywords. For example, if your page is about painting window trim, don't put "Payday Loans" in your meta tags. You won't be fooling anyone, and it's like putting S-P-A-M in big red letters across the page :).

Everything should be written to be relevant for the content on the page, h tags, keywords...everything. You want to be very clear about what each page is about, that way the search engines know exactly what is there.

Link all your pages back to at least the index page (using your index's keywords). If you have more structure (more than one level) make sure pages link to the main category as well.
