GreatDomains.com Part of a Low Life Scum Bucket Scam Ring!

I am sure many domainers are already aware of the domain name 'appraisal scam emails' where someone emails you with interest in your domain, then asks if it for sale or offers a 'large' some of money for it, but says they won't pay unless you get an appraisal from one of the appraisal services in a forum link they send you and also you usually contains links to websites where you can sell your domain names for a cost that is

I got one of these scam emails and am still replying to the 'wannabe scammer'

They sent me this forum link which contains links to their own websites or brother's in scamming! here is the 'SCAM' link I was sent http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/750826.htm (EDIT: The conclusion is that the only website to worry about from that link is actually domainsecondhand.com, domainsecondhand.com IS THE SCAM, the other legit websites mentioned are just to give domainsecondhand.com false credibility so domainsecondhand.com can rob you of your money. GreatDomains.com is actually a perfectly honest offshoot of the SEDO Company. Take care)

You will notice the website greatdomains.com mentioned a few times as a place to sell your domains (at a cost of course) along with some other trash websites. You will also notice in the thread they posted, they 'run down' some legit wesites that may be competition to their pure 'evil' websites, just incase a potential 'victim' may be thinking of going somewhere else

Congratulations greatdomains.com (Edit, foot in mouth, sorry, I have been informed GreatDomains.com is perfectly legit and an offshoot of Sedo.com) you have just been exposed as scamming scum :snaphappy: Smile for a mug shot photo for the domain police :hehe: I shouldn't be laughing, lot's of domain noob's get their wallets 'lightened' by this sort of trash!

Broker, it seems you don't understand how this scam works, just wait for some more domainers with experience with these scams to leave replies

All the posts in that forum are part of the SCAM, 'can someone please help me out here', maybe someone better at explaining

The forum posts were made by scammers, that is their hook to get you in, to make the scam look more human, not only that, it is how they get 'paid'. You pay for the bodgy services from the 'recommended' websites in the forum post and you get 'lifted' of your money, it's how it works

Thanks

from Josh

RareDN,

I think you are part right here. The forum does seem to be a set up, sale. ie, Make things sound great etc, so when somebody reads it, they use the "services" people have talked about.

The part that I think you are wrong, is the Involment you think GreatDomains.com has. They did not post these links. So I do not see how you think they are "scamming scum" as you stated. I think this is a misunderstanding from your part.

If GD is looking for more customers, they would simply advertise. imo

Afternic is a scam also then, they mentioned it on the forum same as greatdomains.

It is a fake forum made by scammers, and they used greatdomain and afternic just to get attention to their fake estimation site. Its not greatdomain's fault :)

You can't make accusations like this based on something "Someone" posted in that scam forum .........

What if someone posted your name or site names in there ? Would you also then be willing to have your name Blasted in a thread like this ?

Actually MattheP, they are warding people of against using afternic, as you will see in my earlier post they are trying to 'run down' legit competition so you will pay for services from the 'two websites that are being ramped in the posts' http://www.domainsecondhand.com and http://www.GreatDomains.com and not think about going to a well know place like afternic

In answer to Yofie: Yofie you may be right, 'I am not the all knowing god', but I still have my suspicions and I think them valid. Also my question is, if greatdomains did not post the links (or is not in cahoots with the scam), why is a 'bonafide scammer' 'ramping them'

Even though the greatdomains website is 'well designed', I don't think they are proper partners with sedo, even though they have that big sedo thing on the front of their website, I think they just used the sedo 'tier program' where greatdomains.com gets a percentage of revenue from anyone who signs up to sedo parking through their website, any sedo pro member can do that inclucing myself.

Now with the trustworthyness of sedo is out of the picture, greatdomains is just some anonymous website with 'good design' and could very well be a scammer, otherwise what would the point be of the scammer who tried to scam me directing me to them.

By the way, I am still in email conversation with the scammer by the way 'his alias is Luke' just leading him on for fun. My price of $98,000 for domain name Zoxm.com seems reasonable to 'scammer' aka 'Luke', so long as 'I', pay for services from greatdomains.com or domainsecondhand.com before he parts with his hard earned cash :hehe:

Fishy? Just a little :imho:

Some people really have problems with admitting their mistakes :)
Heres the quote from official sedo page :

In order for a seller to participate in Sedo’s Premium Auction Event, they must apply through the Domain Management Tool in his or her Sedo Account. English .com and .net domains will receive additional exposure and marketing on Sedo’s dedicated site for premium domains, GreatDomains.com.

Ok so MattheP and Yofie are Spot on about GreatDomains being perfectly legit, my sincerest appologies to Sedo aka GreatDomains and I truly mean that!!!

NOW I AM CONFUSED??? Can someone please explain why a scammer would ramp a legit auction site like GreatDomains.com??? This world is getting to confusing FOR ME, seriously I am now seriously confused :tri: Very confused! Maybe I am the 'noob'. This scammer aka Luke is an alien from outer space playing mind games with me, that's what it is!

I don't need domainer help now! What I need now is a conspiracy theorist!

Because unexperienced users (scammers target group) will think that their domain have much more value (then it really has) when they see their domain name in the same context with greatdomains.com. And will be more willingly to pay xxx$ for a scammers appraisal.
IMHO. :)

Ok so the scammer mingles there site among legit sites so the potential victim thinks their domain name has the same value as highly priced domains on greatdomains.com

I also suspect the legit websites give the scammers website domainsecondhand more credibility for being mentioned in the with respected company. Also please someone don't tell me domainsecondhand.com is a 'legit' website and not a scam center or I am going to turn myself in for psychiatric care

Its legit, many people are using it.. They have some features i didnt find anywhere else, like (quote from their site):

You can simply type your domain name, add some bonus points and get your price in one minute.

This calculator can appraise domains with the following extensions:
.love
.med
.mp3
.shop
.sport
.tech
.travel
.video
.xxx

ps. :)

Well I was supposed to be spending my money somewhere on one of the websites in the link, as scammer aka Luke did not ask for money on the email but to go to the link to buy an appraisal.

Cheers Matt, Looks like the culprit is domainsecondhand.com only, domain newbies take note, stay away from website domainsecondhand.com like it is the 'devil itself', domainsecondhand.com is the 'heart' of the 'scam', domainsecondhand.com even appraises 'non existant' domain extensions for your hard earned money

Thanks again Matt
