I'm tired of rip-offs that promise big $$$ for templates/banners/logos etc. and then just disappear :( I have a suggestion. There could be a script, kind of like what we have on NPgeek, for threads requesting banner contests. There will be fields like the URL of whatever's being designed, type of it, (logo, banner, or whatever it is) and so on. But the main idea I have is that those who start the contest(s) have to pre-pay for their design. Ie, if "username" wants a banner ad for www.username.com, and he wants to pay $20 for it, he must pay $20 to NamePros, thus proving that the contest is legit. Then, he must notify the system of a winner, and that winner gets the money.

I don't think that any legit contests will have a problem with such system, and it's good for both the designer and the site owner. The site owner is sure that his money will get to the winner (proven by NP reputation) and the designers are sure that the request is legal and isn't another ripoff-type contest.

I'd like to be a beta tester for such system if it's a good idea.

Ya, thats what I was going to say. You are going to double PayPal fees for every transaction, meaning for a $10 logo competition, you could lose over 25% of the money. I don't know, it would probably be good for the larger deals, but just not worth it for the smaller ones. Plus, I don't know if RJ really wants to be liable for a competition with a lot of controversary. Too many problems IMO.

It sounds like you are suggesting that design requests/contests have a guaranteed winner.

What if none of the entries are satisfactory, and the contest doesn't produce anything the person likes?

They get their moneys worth in NP$ :) at $0.03/ea.

So, they would basically be losing 1/2 - 1/3 of their investment? I don't think a system like that would be too popular.

well about the paypal is right.

i had something in mind and i dont know if i am sure about but.

create a system where they can buy np$'s expecially for such contests. So the NP$'s cannot be used for the shop or auctions.

I probably could make such a system but the currency would be NPM :P with those NPG's you can submit your details about the banner/logo/site to the system and you post the url in the thread. When a winner is chosen the NP$/NPM is donated via the system to the winner. :)

my 2 cents,

Well, you could always choose to participate in contests where the thread starter's TR has a trader rating you find acceptable. There are also some contests where the thread starters states that they can choose to close the contest if they don't find any entry that they like, so you can watch out for these also if you don't want to spend time participating in contests in which you know the contest starter will close.
