I'm considering starting a .info network and have been doing some research around available domains, premium domains and other things.

One thing I have noticed is that in general .info domains never seem to appear in Google searches. Is this because so few .info's have quality content or because Google doesn't like the extension?

I'm actually struggling to find any keyterms at all where a .info appears on the first page of results, but perhaps i'm looking for the wrong things.

Your thoughts appreciated.

Nice to see such a beautiful site on a .info at LowerManhattan.info - i'm definetly feeling more inspired to develop some .info's now, knowing that there are a couple of successful sites about.

http://www.chart.info/stats17.htm

Shows the top 20 name spaces (tlds) by the number of pages Google chooses to index. Google actually crawls a lot more pages but this is after most of the spam has been removed.
Where the hell .biz? :p

Hate to say it but there may be some truth here.

I have 2 sites which came online about the same time. The info did came first though. They have both been promoted equally.

They are www.rosevillepottery.info and www.rosevillepottery.biz.

Both have a PR4 -- as per SEO tools.
The .info has around 1000 incoming links -- as per SEO tools.
The .biz has around 200 incoming links -- as per SEO tools
They link to each other.
The .info receives 3-4 times the unigues that the .biz does.

When searching rosevillepottery on Google the .biz is listed ahead of the .info

Makes one wonder.

I'll second that statement.
I really wish they would clean their database by deleting the dead links. Am getting tired of seeing the same old irelevant links appearing on the first few pages of results (these are usually forum posts which are no longer relevant to the search).

Agreed..

Seems so many of us depend on Google, yet they are often the least relevant in their search.

.biz is 30th in size, the chart only shows the top 20 (.info is 12th)
