An interesting move, I wonder what Google plans to do with Doubleclick.

I think they will shut doubleclick down. That's all they need :imho:

DoubleClick owns Performics, which is an affiliate program for pay-per-action. I think it will be interesting to see Google incorporate it with AdSense

Good point winst. Google has been looking into integrating a pay-per-action program into their product line; it will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

I am curious to see how much Microsoft offered? I bet Google paid more than $1 billion over what Microsoft offered. Anyone know what Microsoft's offer was?

the whole market is kind of moving in a PPA direction-- this is likely Google's foot in the door.

i love how we all theorize about this like it's the politics of kings and queens (which it kind of is).

There is a trend in what Google has been doing lately. The rumor is personalized search will be the big thing in 2007. And to do that Google needs as much info on you as they can.

They already know a lot from the google toolbar, gmail, etc. and now they bought a spyware company.

So expect in a year or so to open your browser to: "Goodmorning kwan, it's warm outside where you are, your favorite football team lost last night, you forgot to call your mother for her birthday and your girlfriend is chatting with another guy".

Saw this the other day...was on youtube and saw a doubleclick advert....I then googled "Google buy doubleclick" and bingo :D

This will be great....Google will end up controlling all online advertising networks...only good things will come out of this!

I think Google is literally trying to become the government of the internet. Imagine what a stranglehold they will have on web developers, when they'll be the only way to get to your website, and the only way to monetise it aswell. Its the equivalent of owning a shop, but Google owns the road and tells you what products you can sell.

Them aquiring DoubleClick is a disaster for anyone trying to make money from websites. This monopoly, digital or not, is growing on a global scale and will do nobody any good. Even if their intentions are not to squeeze our profits to buffer their own, what happens if they cant cope with the growth of the internet, and eventually close?

Where does our traffic or revenue come from?

I think this is a great purchase by Google as it is a standalon company that
could be intergrated into Google Search but that is actually not needed.

Anybody who want to seariously advertise on the net has to call google in the future.
Smart move.
