Hi guys, as i arrived in the dominating world a bit late scoring one word with proper meaning seems highly unlikely and with that i see that there are good domains available which mean something in other language and are head on keywords for the word. Can anyone share experience if they have done anything like this before? If yes, does that market has potential? Lastly, if i move into that line of operation what potential non-english markets should i target? Obvious ones in my mind is German as .de sells pretty well and i guess .com should sell well as well, Cheers! Thank you in advance and more than happy to welcome any helpful suggestions.

Welcome to NP :)

I would be very cautious of entering another language if this is not your native language. I am Dutch so I also look at the Dutch and Belgian market and it is going ok. However, if I would base my decisions on translators or a basic knowledge of the language, I would probably not do so well.

It is not only the correct terminology that you need to understand, also how common these words are and how likely it is that a business will use it as their brand or go-to url.

So if you want to try it, I would advise to start very slowly, get a feel for some markets and don't spend too much. I would reg a few names if you really want to see what markets have potential, but I think you have better chances with two word .coms in English, as these are still quite easy to obtain.

Thank you very much for your reply, I clearly understand and see what are you trying to say but what i meant was more generic one word names say like gem/jewel or home. There's an extra risk associated as you say, and yes i plan not to register more than 10 to start with and thus far only got 2 :)

I think tvanrijt explained it very well.. You may know the words as generic but I feel you must know the culture also to be able to get good domains in any language.
