GoDaddy Warehousing Domains?

It looks as though GoDaddy is catching and warehousing domains through GoCanadaDomains.com.

See

I did NOT have a backorder on this domain, so it's not sour grapes on my part, just an observation.

I thought warehousing by registrars was against the rules, although ccTLDs might have their own rules.

Thoughts?

I was going after that domain as well, and was shocked GD caught it as they normally can't catch anything. It was one of the bet .US I have seen drop in a while.

Names with multiple backorders generally go to private 7 day auction and the whois will show that until the auction is over and payment is made.

I am assuming the domain is in private auction. I am not in the auction for the domain as it wasn't even shown as available for me to backorder for some reason.

If this goes to auction, the eventual Whois change will be interesting to watch.

This is one of the best .us domains I have seen as a drop.

What a waste for the original owner.

Apparently warehousing by registrars is NOT against the rules :|

...it seems to have become the "norm".

ps-I'm not saying the domain in question is one of them

I think it's too early to say if they are warehousing. GoCanadaDomains.com is a GoDaddy DropCatcher. It could be they caught this for somebody else and they haven't updated the whois yet.

There was a big thing about a year ago, where Dave Parsons admitted to having a warehouse full of domains. But he said he was selling them all off in an orderly fashion, as they came up for expiry. Most of them should be gone now. I forget the name of the Registrant. But I'd expect you could find it somewhere on his blog.

GoCanada is a drop catcher for godaddy. someone besides yourself backordered this name.

They use a different company for warehousing.

As I said in my original post, I did NOT backorder this domain, so I will not be involved in any auction, if there is an auction.

;)

I was just curious about who caught this domain and was surprised to see GoDaddy.

If it goes to a private auction or is ordered by a backorder, then all good and fine.

Warehousing is not the proper term to be used.

The domain was grabbed on the drop, not BEFORE the drop.

GoDaddy has every right to register the domain name for itself. Now if there were backorders placed by customers.. then it's a different story, but not warehousing.

Tucows.. they do warehousing. They simply keep expired domain names they wish and do not allow anybody the chance to bid on the domain name in an auction format. They still allow the past owner to renew but as soon as that passed and they want to keep the domain... they keep it. That is warehousing!

For Brokers.us , the whois email search via DomainTools states DomainAlert, which would tell me this domain went to auction on multiple backorders OR, GD used its power and registered the domain name for themselves during the drop.

Standard Tactics was the name of the company used to warehouse names. They no longer do this though after it was made public by DNW.com in 2008.

Plus godaddy doesn't pick up names for themselves. There's no need when their making cash flow from the drop auctions.

Godaddy is picking these names up on the drop for customers who are placing drop orders. They'll make more money anways with customers battling it out.

I reckon Dotster & Register.com are also keeping domains for themselves and putting them up for sale on sedo & Buydomains...apparently its not breaking any of ICANNs terms so its legal (at the moment)

I doubt it, all they need to do is stick them on [email protected] and leave them set to their own nameservers to collect the PPC

QUESTION

Is DomainsbyProxy.com a subsidiary of GoDaddy ??

Eight days since brokers.us was picked up, and Go Canada domains still shows as owner, as of November 5, 2010 at 2:06 p.m. (EDT).

See http://www.whois.us/

I'm keeping my eye on this one.
