I noticed that Godaddy increased their prices drastically so that .com, .org and .net's are over ten bucks sometimes 14!

Also on their website they make the default reg time 5 years now when they used to put 2 for the default in the drop down menu.

Also one last thing about registering with them - you have to use a coupon code cjc695dom to get the $7.49 .com "sale" that they AUTOMATICALLY give you when you call them on the phone! Their recording even says, "all dot com's are just seven forty-nine!"

So if you register online, they will automatically charge you nearly $4 more than if you call them on the phone.

In my opinion Godaddy is the best register, just think a moment before you plan to move your domains to another registry. Yes you can save some bucks, but at another point you loose. You will receive smaller count of offers for your domains, because registry popularity counts here!

You feel Godaddy is the easiest name to use to transfer to new buyers?

Many users just do not make offers if they see some other registry than expected Godaddy, its not the case of transfer, its the case of registry popularity! Godaddy is NR1

Not gonna lie, i do NOT buy domains that are at yahoo or 1and1, no matter what the domain is. I have also had people ask me if i could transfer a domain to GoDaddy because they have never heard of or used the registar the domain was at.

You do not go shopping at a run down super-market if wal-mart is around the corner.... LOL it just keeps making me laugh to think about that.

I just sold a domain to an end-user who hadn't a clue about registrars or how to accept a transfer etc, and didn't have an account at a registrar. Since the domain was regged at GD, I suggested they open a free GD account and I would push into their account.

They opened the GD account withins minutes, and minutes later again the domain was pushed. The end-user just emailed to thank me as the GD push process had been so quick and painless.

You guys are out of your mind trying to find excuses why GoDaddy is good.

Nearly every registrar has a simple push feature.. and yes a raw newbie could register an account and accept a push without knowing anything almost anywhere.

They are treating you like bonehead dweebs with their morally questionable coupon system and sales process designed to rip some customers off for the benefit of others.

In a different situation I bet half of you would be screaming about how unfair it is that GoDaddy tries to charge different people different prices for the same service/product.

Also... don't take this personally anyone, but when I see a webmaster who uses GoDaddy as a preferred choice of registrar, I think of them the same way as I used to think of surfers who connected via AOL.... thick, newb or too lazy to work out they have been sucked into a crap product by good marketing.

I historically have liked Godaddy.....however they are getting a little shady like other registrars. They are playing the fringes a bit more as opposed to out and out f'n you over.

For example, one thing I have noticed they are doing now is when you do a redirect they have rigged their DNS to hold a page full of Godaddy ads for a spell on your domain BEFORE your URL you are forwarding to kicks in. Their DNS resolves, but not your fowarded URL until they are ready. It's like they put a timer on it.

So they make money off the clicks and you get nothing UNTIL your URL you are forwarding to finally kicks in. :|

I also suspect this to be the case, i have noticed it when i hand regged some domains and changed the DNS instantly, it took around 12 hours to change, there is absolutely no reason for this to occur IMO.

I must say i like the fact they email me everytime something happens or changes in my account. Personally Enom is the worst register ive come across, followed by several others that seem dodgy in every regard.

I mean i had 3 domains stolen out of my account at Enom and only found out through Sedo! Even when the domains were no longer in my account they send me a renewal email for crying out loud!, what about an email saying the domains are no longer in my account?

Name is looking better day by day, but overall nothing beats Fabulous for honesty/integrity and ease of use.

Anything I register at Godaddy that might be worth keeping, I simply transfer it to Fabulous.

Can't beat Fab as a registra. Helpful, easy to use, extremely secure and doesn't try to burn your retinas out with a overly bright, overly crowded shit fight that is godaddy.

Fine to register there especially with the coupon offers, but I wouldn't keep anything there long term.

Fab's my preferred home :sold: :imho:

Yeah if you go to Wal-mart - why would you want to on impulse buy a National Enquirer, some Aspartame gum or an Aspartame soda? Oh that is right - you don't 'really' want to buy that stuff - but Wal-Mart wants you to!

Hey Wal-Mart - How about some rechargeable batteries and a charger at the checkout? How about some food or drinks that do not contain known neurotoxins?

I'm glad you brought up Wal-Mart - definitely a company to be uttered in the same breath as GoDaddy.

Fabulous on the other hand - if they knew rechargeable batteries are better for your wallet, the environment and they still made a profit - they would recommend this at the checkout lane...

GoDaddy? Walmart?

--Time to load up on some 8.99 privacy protection, my Star magazine so I can see who Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are dating - oh and don't forget I'd like to really kick my diet coke habit - but since it is right there, I'll go ahead and buy one.....

I wouldn't ordinarily reply to myself, however, yesterday while I was waiting in the checkout line surrounded by tabloids and duracell batteries - I noticed the Star magazine. It had Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt on it and was referring to some new lover for the one of them which I didn't find important enough to remember and no later than five seconds of my glance at the magazine - The woman behind me said to herself quietly, but audibly "pshshhs, how could he do that?" I laughed and replied "Maybe they are all swingers."

Found that Godaddy coupon - it still works. 10% off of a .net, not sure what else it works for!

I transferred a name receiving good traffic away from gd to fabulous and just today I realized it was on gd's shenanigan parked page that they use on people who transfer away...

I'd love to get an answer as to why they are so greedy and seemingly the only registrar doing this..

Okay so no answer has been given as to why GD is the only one kicking to their servers after a transfer away - but this info may be helpful to you as it was the response I got from GD when asking about this

GoDaddy.com

"Hi there, I don't know about the DNS issue but can look into it if you would like to PM further info. But I do have some info for you all in response to "What makes it worse, and this really bugs me, is there is no way to use the godaddy Advances search tool to say 'show me all my domains with just godaddy servers'. You have to do it one by one, and they have a lot. Its a pain."

There are three options that might make life easier for you:

1. In the Domain Manager, on the left hand column, click the grey SEARCH button and then towards the bottom of that column, click SHOW ADVANCED SEARCH OPTIONS. You can search by nameserver there, but currently you would have to type in the full nameserver eg "NS51.DOMAINCONTROL.COM" Because of your post, I submitted a request so that you could search just by "DOMAINCONTROL.COM" instead.

2. In the Domain Manager, there are 4 tabs up top. One says TOOLS. Hover your mouse over that and click CUSTOMIZE ALL MY DOMAINS GRID. Then you can click and drag "Nameservers" into the Column Heading Order. That's useful, but it's not searchable.

3. In the Domain Manager, there are 4 tabs up top. One says TOOLS. Hover your mouse over that and click EXPORTABLE LIST. You can create an export of nameservers, forwarding, creation date, hosts, and more."

What do you really want?

This is a fascinating thread!

First:
I was repulsed by the chutzpah and the duration of the cross-sell process that you are required to wade through get anything done at GoDaddy; and by the loud style and complexity of all their their pages. So I do not use them, even though I suppose a coupon might make them cheapest. Life is too short; my time and my composure are worth something to me. I'll pay more to not curse at the screen while doing business with a registrar. When sellers push names to me at GoDaddy, I transfer them out later.

Second:
As a new registrar, I am NOT interested in registering names for people who are looking to save fifty cents the first year, and then transfer somewhere else to save fifty cents the next. I am looking to provide a convenient, honest, secure service at which I can make some money (and believe me it isn't much per name) in a very automated way, while complimenting my web development business and hosting services, which is where the real money is anyway.

You could argue that owning hundreds of names makes small price differences per name accumulate to an important sum; but time adds up too, and aggravation takes it toll. Would you rather spend your time selling domains, or dealing with registrar issues?
