Recently I received a "Price Requested on your AfternicDLS Domain" email from Afternic for a domain listing. I never use Afternic -- I rarely check my account there and usually deal with Sedo for sales.
Since I wasn't familiar with their pricing requirements (Set a "Floor Price" and "Buy Now" price required, etc.) I decided to call the support number in the email they offered if I had any questions. I wanted to know if I was required to also set the "Reserve Price" for example.
I called the Afternic number given in the email, and after navigating the automated phone system, I was transferred to "Sales", which rang with no answer -- kinda strange. Called a different phone number listed on the Afternic site, same result, Sales not even answering the phone. Finally tried a third phone number listed on Afternic's site, was finally able to get someone at "Sales" to pick up the phone. Really weird that a company's Sales department goes unanswered without even a recording, or that Afternic has so many different phone numbers (listed on their own site).
I asked the "Afternic Sales Team" member I spoke to about the Price Request email. For example, I asked if they could tell me the source (which partner site, like "GoDaddy", etc.), but they would not give me any information. I asked what the pricing requirements were, and from the get-go they immediately began responding to every question with "Why do you ask?" I responded that I wasn't familiar with their process and the email mentioned I could call with any questions. They asked what I wanted to sell the domain for, and I said I wasn't prepared to give (them on the phone) a price at the moment. I was finally able to learn that I wasn't required to set a "Reserve Price".
The "Sales Team" member then said: "Did you put a request through GoDaddy yourself and are now calling me about it?" This really annoyed me. "Why would you ask me that? It sounds to me like you are accusing me of gaming your system. Why would someone do that?" They replied that they'd never had someone call with so many questions before. Really? No one has called to ask about the "Price Request" email that you just sent out that invites people to call for help?
They ended the call saying that they have a large sales team of agents "busting their asses to get domains sold" and I should set the prices as soon as possible.
Has anyone here had any experience dealing with Afternic agents by phone? Is this a typical experience dealing with Afternic?
