Recently I've been trying to get a .io domain currently owned by GoDaddy. It seems likely it won't be renewed considering the lack of any content on the website. Backordering .io domains on GoDaddy isn't possible, so I did some research. From what I've found it seems like expired GoDaddy domains will be put up for auction before being released into the registry. It's not extremely valuable but still possibly desirable, so is the best course of action to participate in the GoDaddy auction? And does the auction occur for all expired GoDaddy domains? Advice would be appreciated.

Sorry if this is the wrong subforum; I'm new to the forum.

Yes. If the current owner does not pay for renewal the domain will go to the auctions before it is dropped. You can add it to godaddy's backorder watchlist feature which is free.
