GoDaddy NOT OWNING UP to their fairly serious mistake

Recently I registered the domain name FindMy.com (or so I thought) and got the "YOUR ORDER CONFIRMATION" email that the name is regisrered.

-Then right after, I got another email saying that during the registration there was an error..

the name in question was FindMy.com
-it ended going for over 2000$ on DropCatch auction which is the company who actually got it apparently.

I called Godaddy.. the most they would do is offer a Godaddy Discount Club for 2 years if I payed another 50$ !!!

Do I have legal recourse if they officially had sent the confirmation email?

I'd take the DCC membership for only $25/year. A very good deal, imho. It might not be compensation for your loss, but it's still a great deal.

I have the same thing happen at most registrars.
Not Godaddy yet because I rarely use them, but it seems to be a common enough occurrence.

I think most of the problem is the misunderstanding of "order" confirmation.
**I am just going out on a limb here** but most likely the email is a confirmation to let you know that your ORDER has been placed and in the que.
From my understanding, there are several hurdles that the registrar has to do after that.

I have had names that I ordered, show up in my account with my information on whois only to be later taken out because of some status change of the owner/registrar/owning company... what have you.
Its in the fine print of the contract that you agree to when making these purchases.

I think there was talk recently about .CLUB and the "CREDIT" domain name. They could have taken that name back because it is in the contract that if there is a "mistake", the name can be recalled (of course written in legalese so that no one can understand what is being said).

Just a thought.

Cheers

Happens all the time with GoDaddy. They show domains being available that actually aren't.

Honestly, I'm surprised they offered you any kind of compensation at all.

It's because their whois records are not in real time. They are not looking up the real-time record at the registrar before allowing you to place your order.

Was the name dropping or did it say that it is available?

you were dreaming in thinking that you could get that domain by hand reg...

WOW...it has NEVER happened to me.

This happens often with GoDaddy and it's because their system is asynchronous. It doesn't process lookups and registrations in real time.

whether dreaming or not .. what importance does that have with the issue here .. and for your info.. I saw the name at a time when there wasn't much time to backorder it.

There was no way you were gonna beat the drop catchers on that name, Read Godaddy TOS they have every exemption to whatever you claimed in their legal rights already spoken for.

As its been said, happens far to often with GD... And to top that if you use a coupon on the reg, you lose that also.

Has happened to me a few times, their whois db is not "live" so there will always be those issues

This happens to me almost on a daily basis at GoDaddy. It's unfortunate but apparently their system isn't perfect. And I'm jealous they offered you such a discount. I paid a lot more than that for their domain club.

Yes they are welcome to offer me a heavily discounted DDC membership!
