Hello namepros community,

I've bought the domain kima.ventures at the opening of the normal buy period, which was Wednesday, February 5, 2014 4:00 PM UTC.

At 4:09 PM UTC, i placed an order for this domain and godaddy send me an email as a buy confirmation. I have the email and the transaction to prove that.

Here is the beginning of the whois for this domain :

Domain Name: kima.ventures
Domain ID: AA52E82C75D942A382BF46F4D7866E12-D
[...]
Updated Date: 2014-02-05T16:36:18Z
Creation Date: 2014-02-05T16:00:09Z

As you can see, the actual entry of the whois was created by my order, as the time are identicals.

48h hours later, i received the following mail from godaddy :

An error occurred when you placed your order, so we will be refunding
your cost. Refunds related to the purchase of a new domain extension
are likely due to the domain being previously registered.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you for your business.

I really doubt it was an error. My guess is that someone came late and propose a lot of money to them to buy this domain.

What do you name pros think of this ? Is there any way to check the whois history ?

Best regards,

Most of the big registrars botched the new gTLD opening on Feb 5; GoDaddy was one of the worst. You're lucky you were able to register it at all: many people couldn't get the new gTLDs working on their site. This sounds to me like a technical problem--they just weren't prepared for the release and screwed up. If you contact support they may be able to fix it, as long as WHOIS still shows your information. If not, you'll probably need to wait for it to drop, unfortunately.

It's too early in the game for people to be offering much money for new gTLDs--especially .ventures, which was one of the least successful. The chance that someone else got the domain is minimal.

Thank you for the explanation Paul. I have an ongoing support ticket with them, i will see where it goes and updates this thread at this happens.
