GoDaddy is a lot slower to forward domains than EnCirca

I just forwarded a bunch today and they've been pending for a couple of hours locally, apparently at GoDaddy. I called and they said 24-48 hours is standard.

EnCirca changes forwarding within a few minutes.

Forwarding is not the same as changing nameservers. If your nameservers point to GoDaddy, then it is simply a matter of GoDaddy changing how it processes queries on those domains. It's hard for me to find justification for that kind of delay.

Its just something within their system that is slow. Im sure they have a Que system that takes its sweet time. But your right, they are slower then need be with forwarding. Im sure in the future this will improve. Well, I hope rather.

I've noticed this too. Forwarding at many registrars is instantaneous, but GoDaddy are several hours. It's usually not a problem but does make me wonder with their expertise in most areas, why can't they provide the rapid update with forwarding.

Probably worth noting GoDaddy forwarding has always been free, while others used to try and charge for forwarding a domain = can you believe that!

I'll tell you what it is - it's about money !

If you don't already have your site forwarded somewhere then you have the standard Godaddy "parked page" with advertisements keying off the keywords in your domain showing. Once you forward the domain it can take the 24-48 hours mainly b/c they seem to slow down the process intentionally to collect a day or two of revenue off the PPC on your domain.

I've raised hell with them about this in the past since I am a big customer. They hem and haw about it, but yes, you can get a domain forwarded faster elsewhere at times.

By pulling this they get to collect ppc revenue off maybe a million domains a day, who knows really? But you know that really adds up on their end and is taken away from our end - once again it is about "controlling the traffic". He who controls the most is the most powerful. :(
