I have a buyer for a domain registered at GoDaddy. In nearly all cases when I sell domains, I tell the buyer to create a GoDaddy account so I can push the domain and most clients have no problem in doing this.

This particular client prefers to transfer the name to another registrar and has been very emphatic about it. Since the domain was acquired last week, it is under the 60-day lock.

But here is the confusing situation I would like you to comment about. As you know, when you change part of the registrant information on GoDaddy, you receive an email from GoDaddy that takes you to a page in which you can opt-out of the 60-day lock, which I had done for this specific name.

I have called GoDaddy three times and on those three occasions, the agents have had no idea about the opt-out option I am referring to. They have specified there's no way of opting out from the lock.

So my question is, what is the 60-day opt-out button for? In my opinion, the paragraph below is very clear in reference to what it is you are opting out of.

I thought that was only for when you update the contact information.

If you register a new domain or transfer in this might not apply.

That is the standard email that Godaddy is going to send when a domain has the contact info changed. (in domain transfers obviously the whois info is changed.) This came into effect when ICANN implemented new rules recently.

If the domain is not currently locked then you can opt out of the whois change lock by turning that button off. (to the left)

If the domain currently has a lock on it for another reason, you can still opt of of the change lock, but the domain will retain it's original lock period.

Now, dealing with a new registration - you have an initial 60 day lock.

If the buyer wants to transfer the domain out of a current registrar before the initial 60 day lock - they will have to wait out the lock period before the transfer will process.

Domains can be transferred to another account within the same registrar during this 60 day lock.

Hope that makes sense and answers your questions...

Just hand-registered a couple of names at GoDaddy this week. I asked them this specific question if another GoDaddy member can have any of these newly-registered names transferred to their GoDaddy account right away upon purchase, surprisingly the agent said the buyer will have to wait 60 days.

I suspect the GoDaddy agent is wrong.
