GoDaddy is now breaking WHOIS searches when the domain is with them.

Do a WHOIS on a domain at GoDaddy and it tells you that you have to visit their web site. This is just plain wrong and if support tells me they cant fix this then I am moving my domains away ASAP and wont be moving my 40+ others to them in the near future.

Are you using a popular online WHOIS service?

If so, GoDaddy is probably blocking the IPs.

All of the above observations can be correct at the same time, however strange that may sound at first.

It just depends on whether the whois server each of you guys is using only does a basic bulk whois check, or a two-level check that includes further server queries as needed.

GoDaddy is not the only registrar that withholds their data from the bulk whois database, I don't think.

I don't claim bang up-to-date expert knowledge here, but if I were a betting man that's what I would bet on.

GoDaddy has been blocking all whois requests through port 43 which is the port alot of whois tools use and the port other registrars have to use. This is just another tatic by them to make transfers away from them more difficult.

Yeah they are doing it just to get more views of their lame advertising on their pages. The support rep told me they will not fix this, so my domains are going away then they better not email me again.

As I registrar I have filed a complaint with ICANN. I believe all registrars should make the whois information needed for transfers freely available. As ICANN is currently reviewing GoDaddy's policy of denying transfers if the whois records have been modified during the last 60 days now is the perfect time to file a complaint about this practice as well.
