This is pretty bad.

I have a backorder credit I'm trying to use up on Godaddy.

I backordered a LLLL.com that was previously reg'd with Godaddy. It dropped yesterday and they couldn't even get that name. It went to Oregonnames so it'll likely drop again. But come on - the name was reg'd with Godaddy and they couldn't even get it!!!

Besides .us anyone had any luck with Godaddy and other extensions.

Thanks

I had the same thing happen with a domain I backordered. You can switch it to a different domain, so just do that.

how would the fact that it was registered at godaddy help them to catch the name?

If the name is a GoDaddy "pre-drop" (an expired name owned by a GoDaddy customer and offered back to Backorder and TDNam users before actually being dropped) and it is regged trough GoDaddy, they'll get it every time. Once it becomes a "true drop' (going through the actual drop cycle), GoDaddy has little chance of actually getting it back while going against Pool, eNom, Snapnames, Snapnames PA (the aforementioned Oregonnames), and the tasters...

Of course, if you use it on a GoDaddy "pre-drop", you are flagging it for the entire TDNam nation to see (it shows up with a $10 bid at TDName), so your odds are still pretty slim you'll get it unless its not useful to anyone but yourself (perfect example : I had one credit left forever and finally used it to get the name AllDrops.com)

GoDaddy's backorder service used to be at least serviceable, but I don't even bother with it anymore.

Same thing just happened to me. A domain name (.com) that I had backordered using Godaddy's domain backordering service (though not registered with Godaddy) expired ten days ago. Godaddy failed to grab the name while Oregonnames was able to grab it. Today, I just received a Godaddy email stating that yet again, they couldn't grab the name. This time, the name went to K--SERVICE.COM (capitol domains, llc-capdom.com ).

I've read that there are companies who snatch expired domain names and keep them for five days and if the domain names don't generate any traffic, they let them go (without any financial impact on the companies who snatched the domain names). Since the domain name that I wanted has been snatched and transfereed twice within ten days, I believe that could be the case with me.

The following links with explain this in more detail.

This is very frustrating. I may end up going to snapnames.com and pay the higher fee in order to secure my domain name.

I just wanted to update my comments regarding the use of Godaddy to snap up expired domain names. Well, it looks like the third time is a charm. Godaddy finally secured my domain name on the third try.

Godaddy is good for catching .biz drops too, and have better results (but not great) in .org than they do .com and .net for me.

Based on their fixed price, there is no real incentive to compete with 200 other registrars for the LLL.com drops when they can just do a steady business of .US domains and earn the same amount for stuff that less people are competing over.

Did you just leave the backorder on there and monitor the name? Mine say "backorder failed" so I delete them and try something else. (These are names that oregonblahblah took. I didn't realize they were a taster.)

Do I just leave the backorder on the names for a few weeks? Thanks for any help. :)

"Did you just leave the backorder on there and monitor the name?"

Yes, I just left the backorder settings alone which allowed Godaddy backordering service to continue monitoring the domain name. The first time that Goddaddy attempted and failed to acquire the domain name, I received the "backorder failed" email. I just continued to allow Godaddy to monitor the domain name and on the third try they were able to grab the name for me. Between the time of receiving the Godaddy "backorder failed" email and actually acquiring the domain name, I received Godaddy emails informing me about the domain registration changes that were occuring with the domain name that I was trying to grab. That's how I found out that oregonnames and Capitol Domains, LLC were tasting the domain name.

"Do I just leave the backorder on the names for a few weeks?"

Yes. Allow Godaddy to continue monitoring the domain name. If you really want to increase your chances of securing your domain name, you can simultaneously use multiple domain backorder/monitoring services if you like. Some services are more expensive than others.

To learn more about using multiple domain backordering services, you can click the link that I am providing. Good luck!
