Question on capturing a GD Dropping Name

A name regged with GoDaddy is dropping today. I have it backordered at Snapnames and Pool. But, I also went and backordered it at Godaddy under the assumption that since Godaddy is the registrar perhaps they get first chance at it.

Is this how it will work, or can the other drop catchers still beat Godaddy, the registrar of the name?

Godaddy lie
I backordered it there, they say "we grab it for you the scound it becomes available" when infact theres a 30 day period you have to wait.

Well, it turns out that GoDaddy could not even beat other registrars in capturing one of it's own names! LOL! If they can't get their own names, what value at all is their capture service? I guess only if no one else in the world wants it, but then why even use a backorder service!

When a domain goes through the expired process it is no longer the property of the registrar. So even though the domain was registered at GoDaddy, they don't have any better chance of getting it than another registrar. Now it becomes who has more power to backorder the domain. GoDaddy only uses 3 accreditations to grab the domain where as pool uses over 100, so pool has a much better chance of grabbing the domain than GoDaddy. With only 3 accreditations it's no wonder GoDaddy does not win too often for anything that matters.

Thanks. That makes sense.

Regarding Pool, I've noticed that Snapnames outgrabs Pool by around 5 or 10 to 1 when I backorder names on both of them. I doubt they have that much more power, so I wonder why that is.

Please explain to me why (if you really want the domain) instead of backordering the domain you would not just offer the domain owner the $18 or whatever it costs to backorder.
If I were going to drop a domain, I would be glad to except the $18 instead of recovering nothing by dropping it. I know someone has stated on another post that the owner would then think the domain is worth keeping, but I would bet thats not the case in most domain drops. I have some I will drop when the time comes and would be glad to get the $18. The simple fact is, I'm just not interested in them anymore.

It had already gone through the tdnam cycle and was no longer available there. Then I believe it is 2 weeks before it becomes available for registration.

I'd gladly pay the $18 or whatever to securely buy it if I could.

Is it too late for the domain owner to reclaim the domain? If not maybe you could somehow work out a deal through him.

If the domain was registered with godaddy, then:

if the current owner decides to renew it (they may have to pay an $80 charge to godaddy if renewal is overdue) the current owner will continue to have it.

otherwise, if someone bought it at TDNAM, they will get it

otherwise if someone has a godaddy backorder for it, they will get it

otherwise, godaddy will drop the name and other drop catchers might catch it

Only one person can have a godaddy backorder for any one domain name.

An exception appears to be names listed as "high value' names at tdnam. It appears impossible to set up a Godaddy backorder for these and if no-one buys them at tdnam, I do not know what happens to them...

I had a GoDaddy backorder on it (the onlyone or course), yet someone else ended up registering it two weeks after it left tdnam. So, a drop service beat GoDaddy backorder on a GoDaddy name.

persistence pays, keep trying multiple drop systems at the same time.
