Hello,

I would like to acquire a domain via GoDaddy Auctions. However, I won't have internet access at around the time the auction will close, and I don't want to attract attention to the name by bidding an hour or so in advance. What do you guys normally do in these situations?

I tried calling GoDaddy about this, but the estimated wait time was 48 minutes :wtf:

There isn't really an option for this .. if there was then everyone would use it and there would be zero bids on all auctions until 5 minutes before the end of each auction.

Possibly if you have a premium account rep at GoDaddy I'm thinking that they might exceptionally be able to manually put in a bid on your behalf (although I'd think that's something they would avoid).

Otherwise I'd think your safest option is to get a trusted friend or family member to do it. If you had a LOT more history here at NamePros I'm thinking a solid connection here could also do it for you, but considering you registered today and this is your only post I think you can understand if most members would be sceptical of using a potentially fraudulent credit card or risk you not being around to pay after the auction.

Best of luck getting your domain .. I know there are times when I'm at work and can't bid, it can be super frustrating .. depending on the name sometimes I bid early .. and other times I risk it by not bidding and hoping nobody else sees it and I can grab it at closeout.

Thanks for the reply Ategy. So there isn't any software that can place bids for you while you are away? What is API?

How is it that HugeDomains seems to automatically outbid people all the time...are they in fact doing this manually?

Well .. I was assuming the one domain wasn't worth more than the massive amounts of time and money it takes to develop such software .. and that more importantly that the domain was already in the auction queue at least a few days (thus going to auction in a week or less).

Although to clearly answer your question .. as far as I know .. no such software is publicly available for sale. But let me know if you find out otherwise.

You certainly could hire someone to create such a program for you. But good luck getting it in time for anything less than what the domain (that even has a small chance of getting no bids) would have cost you.

I know Godaddy has a way to do automatic bids, I see it done all the time, but I don't know how.

Automatic bids are not the same thing .. those are also proxy bids .. basically you overbid in advance .. and then the GoDaddy system automatically bids higher for you as long as your advance bid is higher than the last person's bid.

But with automatic bids you have no control on when the ext bid is placed as it is done automatically when the next person bids after you.

While you can overbid for the very first bid, it will still put $12 immediately .. so this isn't what @Liberty82 wants .. he wants his very first bid to only show up at the last minute .. which isn't possible to do automatically on the GD platform unless you've made your own program and integrate it to GoDaddy's API

You could program a bot (headless browser). 'Nuf said. But it's not a 5-minute job.
Maybe the best in your situation would be to borrow a 4G-enabled laptop/tablet.
