GoDaddy Auctions -- Discussion, Acquisitions, and Sales

I searched the forum and could not find a thread dedicated solely to Godaddy auctions, which seem to be heating up lately.

I envision this thread as a place for discussion regarding YOUR sales and acquisitions, and general discussion about the auction venue itself, and, perhaps, some domain oddities that are popping up on the auction site, for example, high-priced domains that should be regfee.

:)

One caveat, though: for your own good, PLEASE do not reveal your auction win (or anyone else's, for that matter) until the domain has landed in your account because the original owner still has the option to renew it, and I know how vexing that can be. In other words, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

On the other hand, if you're having second thoughts about your auction win, by all means tell us all about it.

I suppose that if an auction win is high profile, it's already out there, but, still...

Anyway, I'll start with three comments:

1. I won my first (and maybe last) intentional typo, and it's getting clicks (no $ so far, though): Forwx.com. I could not find a live TM on this term, but one never knows. I have mixed feelings about this one.

2. I accidentally clicked on a BIN that I didn't want (I wanted the one above it), but I decided to honor the bid anyway. Grrr..., so be careful before hitting the submit button. It's not in my account yet, so I can't really reveal it right now.

3. Currently, there's a weird .co domain at over $9,000, with three bidders duking it out. Again, I don't want to reveal what it is, but if you go to the most active auctions, it's number 1 (as of this posting).

Mods, I hope this thread is okay.

:)

by the way.. I noticed something else.. . Godaddy has started to play around, if you're no vigilant you can end up paying alot for no reason.
--> Was going through some deleted names list.. I took some names down and checked on godaddy to see if they were still availabe.
--> it showed 250$ or more to bid on them (several of them).. I checked on Namecheap.com, it was available to register for reg about 10$!!! Happened with a few names!

This is a glitch caused by an expiring domain not being removed from the auction site by the former owner.

If I know that the domain has expired (meaning that I have already checked whois), I'll simply click on the auction button, and it automatically takes me to the hand reg page with hand reg price.

Even if it didn't, you're not committed until you have signed in and clicked on the confirm button.

Yea something like this happen to me last night, I went to buy a name I knew was available but it had a $499 price on it, I thought it was strange so I went ahead and put it in my cart anyway and once it was in my cart the $499 price was gone and it was just the regular reg price.

With a coupon I got it for $1.99 :)

BobbyT you can get the auth code on day 45 so instead of paying Go Daddy $80 you transfer to Name.com for $8.25.

I did a post for Morgan Linton after speaking to Paul Nicks, Musics.com was redeemed and sold to another person in Philadelphia.

http://morganlinton.com/musics-com-stays-in-the-same-city-but-no-money-for-go-daddy/#comments

This is new to me. I thought the domain name was locked after passing the expiration date and you could no longer transfer the domain name. I'll have to try that.

By the way, FleetVehicles.com already over $1200 at GD auctions.

Win-Poker-Game dot info...
sells for about $4K on Godaddy just now in expiring auction.

Are they kidding? Doesn't GD at least make some attempt to police such blatant false bidding?
-regged a year ago, minor development, almost no traffic, just expired. Three words, 2 hyphens, dot.info.
- 'win poker game' gets 10 monthly google searches.
- dot.com and all other ext still available to register and never regged before.

Yeesh.

I back-ordered a domain name and it went to auctions and its in auctions but doesn't show up in searches or when i browse the listings but only shows up when i do a exact domain availability search.

It however got a few bidders, confused and did a little research and it seems back-ordering is like putting a target on that domain. Is it?

I'd have to say "yes," because whenever a domain receives a bid, it gets placed in an active auction list, which is searchable and winnowed from the "0" bid domains on Go Daddy's platform.

This goes for bidding on domains; I usually wait until the last minute before bidding to avoid eyeballs. However, if a name ends up on a domain blog, it's pretty much "game over," unless you want to pay a higher price.

is it actually possible to transfer after the domain expired? I though the registrar don't usually allow this.

With the GD system it is possible to transfer the domain to another registrar well after it expires. You can basically transfer it up until the point it is assigned to a new account, around 7 days after the expired auction ends.

about transferring after expiration, I was going to do that recently, like I had before.
this time, I was able to get an auth code, but the system would not let me unlock the domain

so I didn't try the transfer.

I just today transferred an expired domain without any unlocking problems.

Anybody know what the $28 domains are? I bid on one today and when I submitted the bid, the domain disappeared.

I think these are Moniker registered domains being auctioned off at GoDaddy. The domains are transferred to GoDaddy if you win.

Great thread Ms.Domainer

Yes, absolutely.

What's pathetic is that, unlike real-world auctions like Sotheby's , Christie's, domainland auctions are unique in that the winner can be stripped of his winnings if the owner of the property decides to take it back by virtue of "renewing." Yet domainers still participate. Perhaps most domainers know little about real-world auction principals, policies, ethics, etc.

I'll speak with my wallet and stay away from Godaddy auctions and the rest too. Believe me, the best names never make it to you and I anyway. You gonna scramble for third-tier names?

try to look it up by running a search...if you do not find it, the original owner must have renewed it!

Far too many if you ask me. I wish they would learn to leave well enough alone.

That aside, thanks for the confirmation.
