.mobi Getting good deals on .mobis...

Thought I'd share my experience over the last few days... The idea for creating this thread comes from the OceansideCA.mobi thread about the validity of Overture, search engine results,...

As we all know, Overture (Yahoo) has not been updating their results for a long time now. This presents each and every one of us with a unqiue opportunity here -- to seek out names whose traffic has radically increased lately, but is not reported as having increased by Overture (think: fads, new ideas, new trends,...). Some domainers (albeit more "new domainers" than veterans) still place value in Overture scores...

I bought a 1 word .com (of course, the same could be done for .mobi) a few days ago (still in escrow, but "officially mine pending Sedo approval") that has a 24 hour Wordtracker score higher than it's Overture score for the entire month of January. The price I paid for it... Well, let's just say it was closer to being based on it's Overture score :) No clue how much profit it'll bring in, but I'm guessing at least a 300-500% ROI should I choose to resell the name (which I probably won't).

So for people who missed the .mobi landrush... This just may be your landrush :) Use the knowledge you have. Find the deals that lurk out there -- and there are deals to be found!

It's definitely time to start seeking alternative means to getting good .mobi's. The aftermarket is probably the best bet right now.

Definitely. And with so many domain owners not knowledgeable about all the tools out there, the opportunity is ripe for this with the requisite knowledge to profit off of those unfamiliar with the current state of affairs. There's money to be made, hand over fist... Quite literally. From picking up good LLL.coms for ~$200 per when someone "needs the cash", to picking up quality generics from someone who doesn't value them adaquately, needs to sell some for upcoming reg fees, etc. The best thing... It's just going to get better from here on out :)
