Get ready for .ME

Montenegro, the country that declared independence from Yugoslavia last year, was just assigned .ME as their official country code top level domain.

If I were them, I'd be very thankful that Macau already had .MO taken because I really like .ME much better. Hopefully in time they end up with reasonable registration rates and a solid registration platform, unlike .YU. This should be a popular TLD with registrants.

They did not launch it in the first half of the year because ICANN delegated them the .me tld on September 11th. So I think they will need some preparation.

As we have previously stated, this approval ICANN has to forward to the Ministry of Commerce of the USA for consideration.
The following step is to forward request for registration of our domain to DNS root zones. This process usually takes several weeks!

So I guess it will not be that soon.

What a great extension with endless possibilities so long as the registration fees and renewal fees make market sense.
This extension .me, will open the whole state of Maine up for exploring. Here are but two examples:

Bangor.ME and Kennebunkport.ME . I can't wait!!!

I’m glad that you like .me already. Me too

There is no precise information about launching time for this ccTLD yet.

I think that it will be expensive...my guess is that it will be ca. 50 EUR per domain name and that it will be probably list of premium domain names. Montenegrin government realizes that it is great opportunity for them ($$$).

One more thing: .me is new ccTLD, but it is inheritor of .cg.yu. Every company with .cg.yu domain name will keep its previous domain name automatically, but with new extension or will have advantage to register new .me domain name.
