is a CityState.tv a good name to reg if the city has over 100,000 people and is in the top 10 fastest growing cities over 100,000 people in the United States?

Example OrlandoFL.tv

WallStreet.tv should be OK - maybe there are other famous streets like that rather than just any old street ? I don't know much about US streets.

Well I started PortlandMaine.TV and I have done well so far.

However, I acquired Maine.TV and will be announcing my plans for it within the next few months.

I think CityState can work well, but like any geo,
it is best if you know your geo territory really well, especially in the mid size markets, as you will have to put alot of time in working with the geo.

I can tell you the amount of time needed to properly run your geo, if developed, will probably be 2 to 3 times what you initially think, that is, if you are thinking about really trying to do something big with it.

So you like the PortlandMaine.tv better than the PortlandME.tv?

Man you can really dominate with the Maine.tv and getting a bunch of citys like your portlandMaine.tv and running them off of the main site with like a directory of towns. How is portlandmaine.tv generating revenue right now?

100 000 people sounds small to me, even if it is growing fast unless it is special in some way such as being a major tourist destination.

For the same amount of effort you could develop for a larger more lucrative market.
If you just want to flip the domain I wouldn't count on finding a buyer, how many TV domains does a town of 100K really need and CitySt.TV isn't even at the front of the line for the 1 or 2 endusers that might be looking for a name.

Some of your questions are non disclosure at this time, so my apologies for not answering them here in this forum.

However I can say, that one thing you need to understand is that every GEO is different, different population, different culture, different business climate.

What citystates are you looking for?

not really looking for the quick flip at all, in the top 10 fastest growing cities in the nation you wouldn't really call that good?

I apologize for asking about the revenue part, are you saying the decision between which domains you like better are in disclosure to?

And by citystates I'm talking about the CityStateAbbreviation.tv like cityst.tv

Well, see, the first thing I want to establish is that the most important geo you can get is the pure generic, that is either the city.tv state.tv country.tv etc.

I'm sure everyone understands this but in case newbies read this that should be understood.

After the pure one word, you then run into a whole plethora of decisions you can make, and creating a hierarchy for those is very gray in my opinion.

For instance, I went after PortlandMaine.TV because at the time I was not sure if I could get Maine.TV . I also went after PortlandMe.tv as a defensive.

These are both decent hand regs at $25 per year, and each could easily be developed.

That is one of the things about .tv, there are other opportunities available besides premiums that you can make things happen with.

You can also add channel, or a tv.tv combo, the list goes on.
All the ideas came right out of this forum by Ray and others talking about possible ways to work .tv

The real question then becomes, what is it your trying to do, and what will make most sense for you in your market?

The spelled out citystate.tv domain might look longer, but might make more sense, especially for people outside the area who do not understand the abbreviation. You might need people to read both the city and the state so no confusion arises.

However, in certain situations, the abbreviation might be all you need, and it can be just as potent locally.

I think you need to ask yourself what your needs are, and what you are trying to do, before you start asking which domain combo is better or worse.

Well if it doubles in population over the next 10 years (which is a generous guess) you are still only looking at 200K people. Why not put the same effort in developing for a city with 2 000 000 people and 10x the users and revenue opportunities.
But as mentioned before it really depends more on the local culture and if you have a way to monetize.
For example:
city A is a fishing village with 50K people, however they also are famous for the best lobster in the USA. People come from far and wide for lobsters and rides on lobster boats. Your TV site could feature the local lobster fishing culture and sell advertising to tour operators and lobster sellers.

city B has 200 000 people but they are mostly unemployed and only 10% of them have internet, it would be much harder to make money here even with more people.

city C has 2 000 000 people, this probably means there are also 2000 different niches you could cover with your .tv site, pick one :)

That combined with the rapid growth sounds like a hot real estate market, maybe you should go for CityHomes.tv instead of CityState.tv

Hey Mindwrecker, just checked out your scratch video, you're too funny, that Nirvana action was sick too!
That channelMe platform looks kind of cool, does it pay enough to cover reg fees?

I understand, and I think the abbreviation for TX would be pretty common and most people would know so I think it would be better with the cityst instead of the citystate. And I guess you could say my main needs are to produce a site that will generate revenue somehow some way. So if I had a decent name for the for the city which ways could possibly generate revenue? I know they are many many ways it could actually they are unlimited ways but what would be the easiest route of doing this? If your saving that for your own sites then no worries you don't have to say anything in that nature, Thanks.

Thanks for the input Timewarp, but the thing is with cities that big of nature most decent names would be taken, and I'm sure there is some out there that haven't, but might take a while to scan for them and I probably wouldn't have to much of an idea about the city, oh well guess I could learn lol.

EVERY single city/state in the top 265 cities in North America are gone. We happen to have scooped up 230 of them, along with around 220 others.

City with state abbreviations are still open for a reason. 99% of people in the world couldn't list all 50 state initials for a *Billion dollars and more importantly that is not how people search or lock information to memory. When is the last time you've said, or heard someone say, "Hey I'm going to Phoenix AZ on vacation"...exactly.

GainesvilleFL.com $2,037
SouixFallsSD.com $2,050

BajaCalifornia.com $95,000
BoiseIdaho.com $175,000
