Has anyone bought one of those generic mp3 players that look exactly like ipods? eBay is full of them. I'm very tempted to get one of these because they cost way less than an actual ipod. According to the description it does the same things that a real ipod does.

Most items like these don't last for long. I rather spend the few extra bucks and get the real thing.

How long have you had them and what kind of use do they get?

I got a few direct from a mall in China - 4gb for about $3 each so not exactly a big loss.

Basically most of them were flashed so if you format you can't use it again. A few just didnt work after a while as well.

The mp4 players were pretty good though. Good sound quality and video playback. Its just the flashed memory issue :td:

I'm currently in China so of course I bought one of those...hahah! It's pretty cool: it looks exactly like the ipod Nano. I never really wanted an iPod so it was sort of like an impulse buy. It plays MP4 videos (I'm not sure if Apple's iPod Nanos do?).

I would usually go for the genuine labelled stuff but I have this bad habit of buying hundreds of dollars worth of those new gadget fads and chucking them away after a week. So I'm glad I bought this generic iPod Nano look-alike and not the real thing.

If you need an mp3 player for a short trip, go for something cheap. :hehe: If you want something that you feel you'd use every day for at least a year (cameras, cellphones, PDAs, etc.) go for 100% genuine labelled stuff.
