Please review www.fyo.ca

Meant to showcase our growing .ca domains and websites for sale. Just need to add more content as time permits but the frame is done.

Would especially like to hear from anyone using older versions of IE, users of Opera, and other lessor used browsers.

There is some slight variation between the latest IE and Firefox, but then again, that bloody IE doesn't respect W3C very well.

Thanks!

Works great on IE 6.0 will try my older machine later in the day - it has firefox/IE5

This is a great idea! - there is no one resource to buy/sell the .ca domains - I realize that SEDO has a good list available - but a CDN solution

are you looking for content (for sale domains)?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for taking the time to look. Indeed we will be adding other Canadian's portfolios as well as we round out the website. Drop me a line if you are interested.

I use Netscape. It looks good except that there is a horizontal scroll bar underneat the top navigation menu. I really like the colors and the layout.

Thanks for taking the time to look - could you be so kind to fire me over a screen-shot of what you are seeing?

Thanks

Thanks! Boy that's ugly isn't it! Something is amiss with the css for that browser obviously.

Ah... more work.

I know the feeling. I was going through this last night myself.

Nice site, layout and colours. I am on IE so everything looks good.

I would suggest you use a cloaking device for anyone's email address you post so there's no chance of being spammed by those spam spiders.

You should never post your email address on any public webpage including blogs and forums.

See here for a couple of different tips:

You are welcome! When I get my .ca domains together I'd love to list them on your site if that's ok. :)

You are more than welcome. We were going to make this a service down the road, but for the first four people to get their domains listed, it will be free for life!

You are number two. :)

Using mozilla, there's a problem with the menu tend to overlap with the navigation. color is ok, but the text content is kinda cluttered making it equal with the menu font and font size seems very hard to distinguish.

Blah blah lead in text -

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--

var contact = " Your Actual Link Text"

var email = "blah"

var emailHost = "blahblah.ca"

document.write("<a href=" + "mail" + "to:" + email + "@" + emailHost+ ">" + contact + "<\/a>" + ".")

//-->
</script>

I took that from the link Kerri offered and fixed it up to be more html standards compliant. Not a huge change but if you like perfect code... :hehe:

Well I've been bashing away at the site - all the while trying to keep it validating as strict as possible. Without netscape installed I can't tell if I squashed that bug or not - or made things even worse!

Background is now forced white in IE as well. You would think that with all the money Bill and Microsoft have that they could afford to put together a browser that adheres to agreed upon standards...

I changed the text from arial to verdana to bring it more 'alive' and increased the font size. Also edited the main top horizontal navigation a bit as well to seperate it from the top part of the site to reduce 'clutter'.

The main thrust of the site will be the .ca sales page of course and I spent some time on that one as well. Still working out just how to present the sales in nice tidy and easy to read format without increasing the page size to much. www.fyo.ca/find_domains.htm

Eventually will probably have to make seperate pages for each seller. Might be easier to switch now to a CMS for ease of updates I'm thinking. I'm also going to axe the adult domains section and replace it with a dedicated page to sell websites. Too many headaches with adult domains...

I look forward to your thoughts.

Nice fresh colours. You dont see to much yellow out there on other sites nowadays.

If I may suggest the following as I think it would make your site even nicer. I would reduce the height of the header panel a bit as its somewhat 2 big for my taste. Also I would get a header designed so as to make the site not look like a generic free template (not that it does!) It would give your site some more personality and I think it would end up looking more profesional (which in turn should lead to more sales :hehe: )

p.s, if you dont need the adsense rev, I would take out atleast the top adsense box as it clutters up the layout and view a bit 2 much imho

Thanks for looking again Betterhosting. I'm going to have to concentrate on squashing that bug real soon.

I have finished the website now other than squishing little creepy crawlers. I'm not so sure about adding any graphics to the site beyond banners or advertisements - I want this to be a quick loading site. I may yet switch over to a CMS if the site gets busy enough or if updates become a pain in the arse! And if I do that then I will look into spiffing up the theme.
