I just saw this on digg and wanted some perspective. This guy wants to trade up his oneuglydomain.com for a more "beautiful" one worth $1 million. It's like that oneredpaperclip idea, but with domains.

My question is, does he have a chance or is this just a parody? I have a couple of dead domains I wouldn't mind trading for if I can feed off the publicity this might generate.

Thoughts?

Hmm... that's pretty crazy!

I'm gonna quote his post here as it'll probably be of interest to most NP'ers, and not everyone will want to go hunting for the info when it's off the oneuglydomain front page.

He's not real lol He doesn't know one thing about law. Ahhh a lotta ppl just love to make absent-minded threats online because in this medium, the real size of your balls can't be seen.

Hey dude -- wanna sue me for slander? PM me and we can arrange the paperwork for a lawsuit.

There are a couple of good names offered. I think these are the best among them in this order:

1. PunkAlbums.com
2. FindFinance.net
3. QuickPHP.com
4. SolidFinance.com

I really don't like much mobi or tv domains. I hope a good .com will win and many people including me will start considering to offer names for the next round.

Cool!

P.S. If you like QuickPHP.com that much, could I interest you in QuickPerl.com? ;)

Since English isn't my native language I'm using answers.com almost every day. Recently I have seen some adverts on their site. Here is a screenshot:
http://aycu10.webshots.com/image/7809/2004657415628771576_rs.jpg

They say you can now use answers on your pda. Interestingly their website isn't located on answers.mobi but on mobile.answers.com. I don't see established websites getting crazy to own their .mobi versions. Why would a website need two domains? What if they can't get their .mobi domain? Why should they even bother trying to get their .mobi versions?

To be honest I don't see any future for any mobi domain. I think all mobi's are worthless.

Uhuh. I see .mobi failing within a year, personally. It is just too limited in usage.

He Scammed me.

I offered a few domains to trade with the offer of perhaps I could help oneuglydomain. I didn't want the ugly 3 digit domain he was offering but I hoped to help anyway. He refused the names I submitted and ask me for a list of all of my domains. I sent him my best names to look at. I then received an email back he wanted two. I have both emails and will print them in time. I said ok, I will offer one as trade and gave him the one to put up. Then I got a letter back saying he didn't want that one and took it fully upon himself to put the other one that I didn't even offer to trade in his site as trading. Yikes I thought (my name is worth 100 times more than his trade). I kindly wrote back that I wasn't prepared to put that domain up at this point but I will when he move up to a better name, but I do want to help him. He said to pull it out now would be a big inconvenience and it's better that I just leave it now. I kindly wrote back again saying Sir you misconstrued everything (knowing that he fully knew he scammed me). He still didn't budge. SO I hammered back the 3rd email with some very colorful expletives and threats adamant about taking my domain name out of the trade that he just sort of took without my permission. Then he gets mad and post derogatory statements about me at his site. Hmmm. Well I won't help him now. I will wait for his reply and removal of his nasty post at his site before I post all emails here! I have seen some scammers before but he takes the cake. I strongly suggest nobody help or trade a person of this nature that is this dishonest and then retaliates with derogatory statements at his site as opposed to just doing the right thing and pull out the name he didn't even have permission to put in! when you call him down on his scamming.
PS: If you can't run a business honestly and trade fairly you will never succeed!

Remember that you aren't under legal obligation to trade. If your domain wins, post the emails and such here. No one said you had to follow through with a trade.

If so, I never saw the contract when 2 of mine was on there last time.

Archangel, I would disagree in that whether or not a contract has been made would have to be reviewed on an individual basis, dependant upon the wording used between the two parties in their emails.

Because people from throughout the world are trying to interact with the owner of the web site, there are bound to be misunderstandings, and the key is to resolve these issues in a polite manner, without resorting to cursing or threats or other unprofessional actions.

This altercation should have been resolved quietly, so as not to damage the integrity of the project. Since I now have a link to my site at the top of that blog, it is not in my interest to view the owner and a potential contributor throw hissy fits. I want the value of the site to increase, so my link will become more valuable.

So to Schaeffer and the owner of oneuglydomain, I'd say get over it, kissykiss and move on.

Hi Paul,

You sent me a list of domains to choose from, and DrugCompany.mobi was on it.

The problem we have now is that I've already made it public and I can't just "take it down" because then I open the flood gates for anyone that has "second thoughts" to rescind their offers. I'm not sure why you put it on the list if you did not intend to offer it.

I am not interested in any other of your domains. Having said all of that, I don't think DrugCompany.mobi will win the vote because there are better names on the list, so I recommend leaving it there so it doesn't make you or me look bad taking it down.

Also, why are you having second thoughts about DrugCompany.mobi? It's not a .mobi-relevant name and the .com is not even being used (that's why I doubt it will win the vote).

Please confirm that you're OK with leaving it on offer otherwise I need to make a whole post about why I had to take it down.

Cheers,
Andres

I was trying to help you. Your cheating has inspired me to xxxxx you. I can write on the net a little bit better than xxxxxxx xxxxxx .
I better leave this message out with all do respect to the monitors here. xxxxxx
I just cracked here. I said some bad things in that last email I am not proud of. Everybody cracks sometimes. I apologize. But why ugly did you only tell the one bad thing? You can all see how he lead this horse to water but he could not make me drink. Pure scam!!! I was just being kind and helpful and he took full advantage of me here then pushed it when I said gee lets think a bit so to speak. He just took me over!!! I hurt nobody. I bother nobody. I only try to do good.
I say lets bury the hatchet. if you want my f--king drugcompany.mobi you can have it for any dang name you want to trade it for. I just posted it and I can't back out now. But you did try to screw me sir. Now we can reconcile for our differences and move on or we can post derogatory things like mad men for years and I am an old man and retired and I will hold my own. i pulled my drugcompany.mobi out of the sedo auction and I am standing by my word. if you want it you can have it. I will put DrugCompany.mobi in you next runners up if it is that dang important to you sir. If you post it here you can never break your word! And I just did posted it up next auction. So what drugcompany.com wants 375,000.00 and drugcompany, net wants 375,000.00. I not scare to give this name away. You want it you can have it.

I have to ask: why did you include it in an initial list of names he could pick if you didn't want him to pick it? That said, you certainly have every right to change your mind before the 1 name to list has been picked, and him picking the name after you indicated you decided not to trade it is kind of a dickly thing to do, but you REALLY need to be more careful with what you say and do, because you seem to jump the gun a lot. Hell, you offered $2,500 for Lottory.mobi on DiscussNames not too long ago and then pulled it a couple days later. If its owner wasn't the loon he is and took your offer, you wouldn't even be posting here about this quarrel with oneuglydomain because you'd be busy trying like hell to reverse that $2,500 mistake. Bottom line, it's a dangerous thing indeed to PUT IT OUT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Same with offering a name up for trade. Besides the fact that doing it verbally and/or written and taking it back is not all that professional of a practice, you might find yourself trying to take back what would be considered a contract, and I don't think you want to find yourself being sued one day.

I'm not saying this to be critical of any decisions you've made, but you simply need to be a lot more careful before telling someone something that you would adamantly want to take back a day or two later. If you need to, take an additional day to think it over and THEN make a decision.

My free deal

You can have my DrugCompany.mobi free. I don't care if you want it bad enough to set me up for it then blog bad things about an old man when he just tried nicely help you and then try to say you made a mistake (I have more emails to prove it) you can have the id. just tell me who and where to transfer it to. I am to old an to tired to deal with it.
I thought I sent the email proof. he asked me for a list of all of my names. there was no deal on any picks. I was trying to help him. The email.
Hi Paul,

I thought you were already OK with DrugCompany.mobi since you sent it to me in the list via e-mail, so I had already posted it up officially on my website: www.oneuglydomain.com

I hope this isn't a problem.

Thanks,
Andres
My question is how is just sending him a list ofmy names enough for him to just take one and put it up for trade????????????? That is not right my friends!!!

No, it was not a list to pick from. The exact words were let me see your names. Remember my mission was to try to help him. I even emailed him back drugcompany was not for trade at this point but perhaps later and that i only wanted to try to help him.
I don't give a rats rump, he can have the name for free and I want no dang lousy trades. I am to old to fight him and his scamming ways.

I'll give you that. It is bad for business dropping out of something agreed upon. I was speaking with my experience with OUD. Had he placed a domain of mine on his site without my exact say that he could do so, I wouldn't honor a trade if it "won." If it was a legit listing, it'd be different but if it wasn't legit, as he said, then there shouldn't be any obligation to it. You'd look like an @$$hole pulling out but if you were pulled in to begin with ie not under your own initiative, then ya gotta do whatever you can to save your domain.

Speaking of which...

I sent him a list of domains, asking him if he'd accept any of them. He said "I'll accept WebPortals.org and eAthlete.net." Without me giving him the thumbs-up, he put the two on his site. I did not say ok to it. He just ASSUMED I was. I sent him a tiny email later, telling him that I approved, but the two domains were on his site before the email was ever written.

Lesson to the OUD guy: Never assume. It makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me."

It looks to me like a simple miscommunication that went waaaay too far. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is how it seems to have went down...

-Paul sends names for trade.
-Andres no likey.
-Andres asks Paul to send his entire portfolio.
-Paul sends his entire portfolio (English is obviously his second language, so I guess he took this request literally?)
-Andres assumes Paul has sent him a list of names that are all up for trade.
-Paul assumes that Andres will tell him which ones he'll accept.
-Andres assumes it's OK to just post any name(s) from the list sent by Paul.
-Paul tells Andres that he didn't want to trade all the names on his portfolio, especially THAT one, and tells Andres to remove it.
-Andres says he's already posted it and doesn't want to remove it because it'd make him and his site look bad.
-Paul insists.
-Andres removes the name.
-Paul doesn't see that the name has been removed and gets pissed enough to curse Andres out (badly) and threatens to destroy him via the pen, although the pen he is using has a severe problem with grammar and spelling.
-Andres retaliates by posting his take on the situation and Paul's ANGRY email.
-Andres removes n00b.tv just a couple of days later making his site look bad. (joking)

A real Charley Foxtrot, no doubt. I think the feudal post should be edited out, or at least Paul's last name should be removed. Andres may also want to consider using a form submission for accepting names instead of email, just so there will be no future confusion (or frivolous lawsuits). :alien:

man he is accepting some crap names on that list. (imho)

I only see 3-4 I would consider = value ... maybe

energymarket.eu
efinances.org
wackycentral.com
deliverhosting.com

I would put castster.com on my short list except I think it will be confused too much with caster.com

I think this round he had a chance to move up with that 3 char.mobi and frankly he's gonna end up downgrading

-----
i got turned down with x9r.com, gamble.sc + a few others
anyone else want to list what they got turned down

PunkAlbums.com, yeah!

PunkAlbums.com -- no! Absolutely none of these domains are worth even 10% of YoG.mobi. He should just sell that domain and call it the end of OUD. I'm shocked he's done this and from the look of things, he isn't gonna make a good trade for the .mobi anytime soon.

The question is: When will real competition come? He's accepting reg fee/$20 domains (the exceptions are of little value, still). If he keeps getting poor domains as offers, he'll be stuck on YoG.mobi a year -- by that time, the .mobi will walk the way of the dinosaur and be traded for a 3 char .cc or something ugly like that.

Agreed -- he needs to be more selective, and get better offers; there are a lot of reg fee names up there right now...
