:hi:

Do general one or two word domains have any value? Let's just assume that apocalypse.com or nostalgia.com was available. If I register that domain, can it be sold in a week for at least $xxx?

If I find a generic word that has over 9,000,000 results in google, does it have any value?

Thanks for reading!

Almost any word domain has or could have value. Domains are easy to find. Everyone on Namepros is doing it. :) Finding buyers is hard.

Do socionomy.com, catacaustic.com, and syncretize.com have any value? I do and that is why I just registered them. Do I think I will sell any of them in a week or even a month for $xxx? No. How about $xx? Maybe, but finding buyers is not easy for most people.

So if you are like most people you have to either lower your expectations of the price you are going to get, or increase the amount of time it will take to sell the domains. But if you can buy a domain for $8 and sell it in a week for $16 you have made 100% profit and any business that has that kind of profit margin is a great business to have.

So if you can buy domains and sell them in a week with a good profit, what do you do? You raise your prices to maybe $24. You keep raising your prices until it starts taking too long to sell them, then you lower the prices to where they sell like you want them to.

This is just simple business concepts really, but what throws everyone off is the potential for making really big profits sometimes. Then you ask too much for a domain and the buyer goes away and you have to wait for another one. And if you give someone an asking price and they say "yes" right away, then you may have asked for too low a price. This caused people to regret they did not ask more. Well, too bad, but most of us have to learn in this way. And the best thing is to NOT REGRET the sale, but look at how much you made. Next time you can start with a little higher asking price.

My goal in selling domains has become to sell EVERY potential buyer the domain they ask about. The only time I will not is if I am sure the domain they want is worth more AND I think I will get another buyer soon. If I have a domain for two years and only get one offer, then it may be at least 2 years before I get another. That means my cost is going to be at least $32 for the registration. If I can sell a new domain for $100 I will make more money than if I sell a 4 year old domain for $100. :)

chances are if you are registering it, it doesnt have any value other than the reg fee. Because if it is valuable, it would probably be taken or maybe your just plain lucky that word is available, i think chances for that one is like being hit with a lightning. :P

Thanks for replying :)

I found a 13 letter compound word of a popular location that has over 12 million results. Open .com

I also found many archaic words that can be used. Looking at the etymologies of words has helped tons. I suggest looking at etymologies to find some inspiration.

But even though I am finding these "hot" domains I don't think they will sell rather quickly.....just a feeling I have. Maybe the "potential" of the domain would take some time to get actualized.

If you mean there are 12 million results for "word1 word2" without quotes, that's not what you want to consider. Put both words in quotes and then search to find out how many pages have those words together. I still don't really care about that. It's interesting, but doesn't mean a lot to me. What is more important is how many people are using those words together in a search. To find that out I need to use the Google Keyword Tool, and make sure it's set to "exact match". If you find something that a lot of people are searching for, that should be worth more. But it always gets down to finding a buyer for any domain.

oh, what is the minimum searches for any term/name on exact search per month to indicate that names worth enough? do 1000/month okey?
thanks

It's hard for me to say. How much is enough? A very small number could be enough if the PPC bids for the keyword are high. But if they are very low, the value could be much less even if the number of searches is high.

Outside of some basic concepts which you should find sticky-posted at the top of this Newbie section, there are many variables that should be considered and understood to help you avoid mistakes.

The reason most everyone has so much trouble getting into domains with success is that there are so many factors involved, and because each domain is unique.

If you had a choice, would you buy Flicker.com or Flickr.com? Which one is worth more? So that is another factor that many never think about, and that is that development can really change things. Our best earning domain was developed into Bizprolink-Internet.com. It was the first expired domain we bought and it now has lists of expired domains going back about 5 years, over 30 million deleted domains.

You offer that domain for sale today and who would by it? No one. Estibot.com says reg fee, Valuate.com says less than $50, and stimator.com understands a little more and says $205,958.

Valuate.com has an option to put in some domains where you know what they sold for. This can give you an idea of how accurate their estimate is when checking domains you are thinking about buying. But these sites are just guides for quick checks. One factor can throw them off quite a bit in either direction.
