Meh, the domain i was after was a .cn and it was a very common name.

the domain was freebies.cn.

I was trying to register it, and i tryed 3 times at namecheap, and each time it failed... then it said the domain was gone. this is so harsh and unfair. I also tryed a whois at another site (http://www.000domains.com/faq_cn.php) and it must be them who took the domain. I am not too angry since i was going to sedo it for resale, but my mate had a similar problem with another domain which cheesed me off too since i wanted to help him.

That sucks... Have you checked whois if it even was available at all.

That woulda been a great catch.

Is it possible that the domain wasn't really available, that's why the 3 attempts to register it failed?

Hello Robert,

I have a feeling that you will be happy to know that you are the proud new owner of that domain name. It looks like those failed registrations were false.

I've PM'd you the info.

Best wishes,
Kimmy

This happens quite frequently. The same thing has happened to me on numerous occasions. Would you believe that in 2006 I had the opportunity to register Property.co.uk? I have already said it before, I thought I had hit the jackpot. I should have known better and really in the back of my mind I did. Never get your hopes up until you have the domain officially registered within your account.

Now this brings me to another story. I have actually obtained a new registration worth $X,XXX right out of the gate. It turned out that somebody else attempted to register it before me and contacted the registry and had the domain taken from me. Can you believe that? You can never be 100% sure with domains.

Even if you make your purchase in the aftermarket, you need to make sure that it is not a hijacked domain or that the traffic is not fake. There will often be times where things seem too good to be true and then there will be times where those good things are true. The key is to just keep plugging away, be persistent. Don't give up and eventually you will find those diamonds in the rough you have been looking for.

Yes...Kimmy, u are right, I just open a new account in namecheap.com and reg my first .cn name in a foreign company, freebie.cn ...to see what will happen....namecheap report to me it's fail!!

But , while I goto net.cn, the official chinese reg company, look it, I found the whois listed my name there....so now, freebies.cn belong to Robert Allen, and freebie.cn belong to Zilla,

hmmmm for a second the words "domain whois monitoring" came to my mind again. I've heard several stories lately about asian companies that monitor whois records and register all available "great" names before the person who did the whois even gets a chance. I've also heard stories that some websites with whois activity sell their whois records/lookups to other registrars/companies for a big lump of cash.

I do however not know if any of these "claims" are possible or realistic.

I own the domain but,

1. It is not in my namecheap account
2. It fully refunded my money
3. I want that domain to be fixed so badly!

Contact Namecheaps support. Phone them if you need to. According to the registry you are the current holder but for obvious reasons you will need to know just whatโ€™s going on.

Best of luck,
Kimmy

Hello,

Is it all registrations or just the IDN's. Currently we are not supporting IDN registrations.

Hello,

Checkout Unsuccessful!
Due to some issues, the checkout was not successful. The domains/ products were not purchased/ renewed. If you are registering a domain, and if you see this message, it may be because the domain name is no longer available. If you paid using the funds in your account, it has been refunded back. If you used your credit card to purchase, a notification will be sent to the billing department for refunding the amount either to your user account or back to the credit card according to your preference. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

I constantly get the message above, even tho the domain is unregd. Do you know what the problem is?

Robert

That is the whole convo. I didnt realize at the time about the fact it was regd by me with an error.

Anyway, wish me luck.

Robert

I guess it is just a bug...I log out from namecheap, login again, the $ been decrease, the name is there in my account imm.

1. the only thing bad here is namecheap's record of the order is "failed" status..not sure if need push them correct it

2. in this case, never related with so call "whois monitor/cheat"..this is just a bug in namecheap or its interface with the cnnic...

NameCheap? The domain resides with Enom, and no hint of a "sponsoring registrar". And it was as of 07/01/06.

Exactly the same happened with me once before at Namecheap with a .info. The domain was registered in my name (whois) but wasn't in my account and I still had the funds. Contacted NC support, they stuck the name in my account and took the funds away. You won't get it for free ;)

This Really sucks!!!

Last month i searched arounded 1000 domain names......and short listed some 100 names that were available to buy, but i had to postpone since i was short of funds.

Yesterday when i tried to reg those names atleast 30 names ...from my shortlisted names were gone.......all regged within a time span of 1week.

anyway i could manage a get some.
