This is amongst my first posts in the MOBI Forum, drum roll please. :bah: I have found some top keywords available in other languages such as Spanish within the .mobi namespace. All other gTLDs are taken, and also .US. Which are the best languages outside of English to reg, and would it be worth the reg fee for top keywords in foreign languages in .mobi?

Welcome!

French, Spanish, German have all had some great sales in dotcoms.

Really depends on the word -- something like SEX is a great reg in pretty much any (I may be corrected to any here hehe) language.

Unless you are fluent in spanish I would be sure and check OVT to see if the term is actually being searched. All too often there is a great looking foreign language name but then you find out that people don't actually use the word or they use a different form of the world. My girlfriend is from Spain and I thought I had found a couple great Spanish names until she told me that no one says it that way, sure enough there was little OVT for my version and high OVT for the right way (her way) of saying it. She is always right

If not using it, be sure to check the foreign language OVT. Too many people are either googling the word or using a general Overture Tool. I think that is where many people are getting burned.

Good point, for those that haven't discovered digitalpoint.com yet, they have a great tool, it gives you wordtracker and OVT results. The wordtracker is only for US searches but for OVT you can choose your "market" (country) for specific foreign languages.

Happy Hunting!

I didn't even know until a couple days ago that there was such a thing... Found out afterwards that I'm so bloody bad at German I can't even translate it without an online translator

Italian has a lot going for it IMO. Plenty of growth potential, especially in mobile usage - no special letters, accents, etc, so no potential threat from IDN's...

I noticed when I was buying Italian .mobis late last year, a lot of names were getting taken from the beginning of December onwards.

Ciao!

I have a good friend who was born in Rome and now lives on Sardinia. I have an open invitation to visit anytime. My wife and I spent a couple weeks in northern Italy last fall.

I will have to take my friend up on his invite. We will one day, perhaps this fall, be going to Vienna and Northern Italy also on down to Florence. I love the Arena di Verona opera season so we are trying to make plans to include that.

Back to domains...

I was very excited to register a few Italian .mobi. My favorite is Dolci.mobi. Unfortunately, Sardinia was taken. Most of the Venice related are also gone but I did reg Doges.mobi and I also got Strad.mobi for Stradavarius.

Still looking, always looking.

Funny that you say that. On admob you can view in which country the ads are shown. You will often see countries like Bangladesh appear..

Maybe Idea to get into that language

I registered Italian names. My reasoning is:
1) .com does not compare at all in Europe like in the US. In the US, .com is much preferred than .us.; .com vs .us does not compare to .com vs .it or .fr or .de or .ch etc...
2) In Europe, we were behind in seeing the value of domain names.

Grazie ;)

The others are mostly adults (accompagnatrice, amatoriale, troia, troie, tettone), a package of navigation, directions keywords (navigazione, itinerari, cartina, cartine, percorso, percorsi, stradale), plus a few others...

I have Italian cities.....so what?

Where are the buyers? No one cares about italian names. Prove me wrong PLEASE.

Did you see end-user buyers of US or UK cities? Show me. If you have major Italian cities, I could be interested.

For sure, there won't be a secondary market as developped as in English and it's less liquid. It's a mid-term, long-term shot.
