So we bought the domain BanquetFacilities.com, #1 on Google for keyword "banquet facilities" within weeks of first spider

We bought Videographers.net, last night it was #1 on Yahoo for the keyword "videographers" within weeks of being spidered

So we feel like we have a formula (playbook), now Officiants.tv needs to step up the plate. We are using the same formula with it. If google really treats all extensions the same, it should be #1 or at least first page for the keyword "officiants" on Yahoo or Google.

If it doesn't get there, does Yahoo and Google treat .tv different than .com or .net

And before I get the question "how did you do that", I use a quote from my govt days, "I could tell you, but then I would have to kill you". j/k

Although some are more equal then others :)

To my knowledge, .com is always prefered over country extensions, except in the country of the extension itself, where it's the other way around.

There only exception is for country codes that are being used as global extensions, like .cc and .tv as Versign made this agreement with Google.

JohnTV, I've had SEO guys tell me this is the case. I have no proof either way at this stage. For example, I was told that MTV have extensively tried to promote their .tv brand and had trouble getting on the the first page of google results. Ah just checked and its number 3 on google now so either their efforts are working or ....

Your last sentence is the most interesting and encouraging - I had not heard that verisign made a deal with google for .tv to be treated as a global extension. Is this official or public information? What about the other search engines? This is great news and crucial to the long term success of .tv Cheers, CarryOn

No offense, but unless you have some proof that google would give two craps about what verisign wants, I find this questionable at best.

I doubt Google does anything extension specific. I am fully willing to bet that Google does its rankings based on links to, content, and search.

When I do a search on google.fr I get mostly .fr sites, when I do a search on google.co.uk I get mostly .uk sites (other than .com).

I visited the webmasterworld conference (www.pubcon.com) last year December in Las Vegas and I was told this by someone from Google.

Hi CarryOn, I do not know about other search engines besides Google.

In my opinion, it makes sense.
Dot TV is purely branded as a global tld as people in Tuvalu hardly have telephone lines and do not use this extension and most people using .tv sites haven't heard of that island as well. It's no surprise to me that a deal is made as without it, it's very hard to brand .tv as TV (and video) worldwide.

At the end of the day, the information and its gravitational-pull rules. Search engines cannot afford to discriminate or else they will be overtaken by other search engines that deliver more relevant results.
