.tv The model works again for a .COM, .TV sites are still lagging

EventCatering.com #1 for the keyword "event catering". So that is 2 .COMs and a .NET.

Officiants.tv, DiscJockeys.tv, ReceptionHalls.tv, still not #1 for their keywords on Yahoo or Google. Same model.

Hmmm......

Well isn't part of the search rankings based on backlinks as well as keywords?

I would be a little bit surprised if your diskjockeys.tv has more backlinks then say diskjockeys.com.

No offense meant, just my thoughts.

EventCatering.com has as many backlinks as DiscJockeys.tv

Backlinks are not as important as conventional wisdom dictates. Google seems to favor one thing, even over backlinks. Very few would be able to pick up on this thing because only a handful of large sites do it.

No offense, but I have done it three times in a row, same thing with each and the .COM and .NET get higher placement than the .TV (so far) using the same EXACT cookbook.

BanquetFacilities.com, EventCatering.com have very few backlinks

Yes backlinks are important, but there appears to be a way around them and maybe (just maybe) .COM and .NET get more advantage than .TV.

Yes but those do not have an already established site standing in the way. DiscJockeys.tv is running up against DiscJockeys.com the other ones you have the Keyword Generic .com so I think it easier for them to be number 1

Officiants.tv and ReceptionHalls.tv have very weak #1 sites.

I agree it might be easier to get .COM and .NET to displace everything else than a .TV to displace a .COM. But that would means the extension does matter for SEO.

The only thing that make effect the test for Officiants is that AllWeddingCompanies.com has really high placement for Officiants.

If it was just DiscJockeys.tv, that is one thing.

But three .TV sites vs three .COM/.NET sites. The only .COM that has not taken is TermiteInspections.com and that was launched four months behind the others. I don't think that site has been deep crawled.

Anything is possible, but the evidence is sure one sided.

PestControl.com is not developed. Will try to get PestControl.tv up there.

hmmm....
Both of them appear to have zero back links in google.
http://www.google.com/search?as_lq=www.eventcatering.com
http://www.google.com/search?as_lq=www.discjockeys.tv

EventCatering.com
Domain Age: 7 years
Yahoo Backlinks: 25
SERP for "Event Catering": Bottom of 1st page on Google (for me)

DiscJockeys.tv
Domain Age: 1 Years
Yahoo Backlinks: 15
SERP for "Disc Jockeys": Not in first 5 pages

I wonder if the domain age is having an effect? (as well as the effect of more backlinks - though neither one has a huge amount)

Domain Age is one thing I have considered. That could be it. I purchased EventCatering.com, Videographers.net, and BanquetFacilities.com. 2 of the 3 from BuyDomains (you can look them up in DNJ).

Right now I have .TV and domain age as the two most likely differences that would impact this.

However, if domain age is the key, the result is the same. I will need to stop investing in .TV and move back to buying .COM and .NET from BuyDomains and other sources to achieve what I need. Not b/c .TV is bad, but newer than comparable .COM and .NET

Our domain budget for 2008 is currently 100% dedicated to new .COM and .NET purchases, while maintaining our .TV portfolio status quo.

I also bought TermiteInspections.com, so that one will be interesting.

You wanted to know what an end user thinks. This is my thought process - in real time.
